Not an MG
Well after having a think, 🤔 (did you smell the burning?) I was going to run the MG ZS for another year, as most of you know, I’ve never really liked the car, I don’t know why, I just don’t.. why did I buy it, I don’t know, well I do, I was running a MB estate and I didn’t need a big car, I’d never had an EV and it was about the size I needed.. .there are some things I like about it, the way the info screen darkens when the lights come on..sunroof and maybe that’s about it, I think..don’t like that the info screen is so low..anyway, moving on..so I’ve rang Santander for a you can have it back now price, which as I’ve only had it 14 months, was more than I expected, and I’ve done more than the 8000 miles a year..did I say it’s on PCP?…so I thought what I’ll do is park it on the drive for a year to get the mileage down, I didn’t think I’d run it over the 8k a year, (it’s now around 12,400) but I have two daughters, that go on holiday a lot, from Luton and Stansted, as I don’t work, I’m the one that gets to drive them there, so I’ve just bought myself a MB GLA 200d which I’ll use from now on, and I paid cash, don’t like this PCP crap, I was going to give it a year before I bought another car, but I thought, just get something else you’ll be happy with..so after the year it took to turn up, the crap from the dealership would I buy another MG ..EV or not..no I don’t think so, I even drove to Leicester to have it serviced there, I could walk to the Coventry dealership from my house..can’t wait to get the new car, pick it up Wednesday…

You've made a mistake.

Nobody should be buying a diesel in 2024.

MG is not a good representative of an EV, but no reason to return to a fossil.
Umm, it’s a good 5 minutes to fill a diesel and about 45 for an EV…as I have an old mum (86) who’s about 30 minutes away, it’s a lot easier to fill an diesel car and get over there, if there’s a emergency, then trying to find a EV charger and the time to put a charge in it..one of the reasons i went back to a diesel..

Charging from home is a thing.

I have a home charger, but if I have been out and about and it’s down to about 10% and I have a emergency, I will still have to charge it at home for 1/2 hour probably longer than that or go out and look for a fast charger..

Well, rather than buying a whole new car for diesel, you should’ve jacked up the power on the home charger in order to make sure that your car charges faster. Should have gone for a wall box instead of a whole new car.

I have a wall box..so faster than a granny charger…but still faster to fill a diesel..
No one said otherwise. But from 0 to 100% in a properly powered wallbox it should take you about 10h. From 20 to 80 it should take you 6h max. So on a worst case scenario you started the day with 100%, did a bunch of errands/whatever and got back home @ 10%. You’d then have to wait another 9hrs to charge again, preferably while you sleep. It that wasn’t suiting your routine then either a faster charging, bigger battery EV would’ve helped. But hey to each his own. Enjoy your new car.

Yes I normally charge overnight, but as you say, it’s about 6 hours to get a decent amount of charge in it, I think if there were more hydrogen cars and places to fill them, I would have looked at getting one of them as it would take about 5 minutes to fill them…but hay ho..diesel it is..

and guess what, yes one of my daughters is having a long weekend away in Copenhagen as a birthday treat to herself and guess who she’s asked to drop her down to stansted airport and pick them up again..and it’s not her mum..well at least I won’t have the concern of will I get down there and back again on a 100% charge..yes I would, as done it before, but only just and then I’m sitting at 60mph and trying to keep the % down around the 10% and running down hill foot off to put a bit of juice back into it…well at least it’ll give the MB a run out..

I leave from home with 100% most of the time. If you have low charge go and rapid charge it. If the emergency means 15 blast on rapid isn't quick enough you need an ambulance

Well, was your MG your first experience with EVs? Cause they’re definitely not the most efficient ones nor the ones with the biggest battery. A small improvement on both fronts would take care of all your issues it seems.

Yes, the ZS LR was my first…don’t think a bigger battery would make much difference, it doesn’t matter how big the battery is, it’s more a case of how long it takes to charge an EV and there’s nothing out there EV wise that you could charge up in five minutes (yet)..

I respect your decision to change but feel it is coloured by your general attitude to EVs.
My MG TCLR is not the best out there but it is good value. i charge at home on Go at 9.5p except when away from base on long journeys. If I am caught short at home and charge during the day to top up it is still only 29.1p which is cheaper than the 47p - 85p for public charging. My weekly bill for running my car is around £7 so I’m saving a lot compared to fossil fuel and I’ve done 19k miles in 18 months.
I think it is recognised that Hydrogen has now been knocked on the head for practicality and production costs.
Good luck with your diesel, at least you will be happy now.

Your probably right..stop reading it..
Love that!

Driving electric is just a different mindset, plan ahead a bit, keep if fully charged if you use it a lot, and try not to live too far away from anywhere! I've loved having our MG for 4 years now, and only 2/3 times a year do I need to do a journey that it more than 150 miles (or 220 on my new one).

But it's not for everyone and we're all allowed to buy according to our needs. Enjoy the service stations!

For what it's worth I dont think there will ever be the technology to charge up in 5mins. The batteries will just get bigger and more efficient so you'll be able to go 1000miles and charge less...

Maybe I’ll go back to a EV at a later date…don’t think it’ll be a MG though…there will be the odd thing I’ll miss..don’t think I’ve ever been left at the lights…they maybe a bit in front of me..till they have to change up to second..then it’s bye bye…the dash cam plug by the mirror..other things I think are very poor…the reverse camera I think is very, very poor, I’m half way into a parking space before it comes on sometimes..can’t see anything if it’s been raining etc..the auto light main beams, it sometimes just doesn’t see cars that are in front of you and stays on..I just switch the thing off..and that bloody brake thing..the times it just sees nothing and slams on the brakes..and my steering wheel has started to peel away on the right hand side…
