Hello all! Be really grateful if anyone can advise? We took delivery of a brand new leased MG ZS in Jan. Since the start, there's been a pretty strong smell of burning/hot plastic when the car is started. Smell kind of lingers for quite a while but is strongest when we start the car. Any clues? Should we take it into a dealer?
Thanks in advance!

Yup, same. Dust or other residue in the cabin heater or ventilation ducts. Goes away after a couple of months. MG’s version of of the new car smell…? 🤔

If the heater is in regular use, it tends to be fine.
But if it used infrequently, when turned on it can give off the same smell of dust resting on the bars of the old style electric fire 🔥.
This is because, it is similar in many ways 🤣.

Thanks everyone! Husband has lung problems, so just wanted to be sure. Smell did go away when heating was off, so that must be it. #grateful to this group!
If you have any continued concerns regarding the odour produced when the cabin heater is in use and given that your husband has respiratory issues.
If you are in any doubt what so ever, then please have it checked by the dealer, to be 100% sure that the HVAC system is functioning correctly.
Many others ( including myself ) have experienced this phenomenon, but if in doubt, get it checked out !.

You're welcome. It's a great group on here. The only other smell I know of that happens is on models with a panoramic roof. The wind breaker netting can get wet and give off what people describe as cats pee. Once dried, the smell goes.

I used to have this too, I had the AC on all the time wether heating or cooling but the smell wasn't there all the time and also it can't have been 'dust' as it was always in use.
