Only had the MG ZS EV LR Trophy connect for just over a week and the one thing that is annoying me is the infotainment system.
I have tried radio, amazon music, usb stick and android auto (spotify, amazon, and my on phone music) but each time I switch off the car and then return for the next journey I have to select some music source again. It won't just allow me to carry on listening to what I was listening to last time.

I'm not keen on the way it keeps playing after I switch off until I exit and lock it but I can live with that. I can hold the home button to switch it off or press the mute if I'm that bothered.

Is this normal or am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks for any help.

I could have something playing on Spotify, get home, unplug the phone, get out, lock the car.

Unlock next morning, get in, plug in the phone, it will carry on playing where I left off without any intervention from me.

Edit: Sorry different models.

You would have thought the software in all MG models is the same?
Maybe not.

Software R40.

The infotainment software is a load of crap, it never boots up the same way each time you start the car, sometimes I can even see the screen faintly when the car is off. Not it's best feature.

I have a gen1 and that holds the programme that I was listening to on the radio. When I start next day, it's the same radio station, same volume etc.
Maybe ask for the latest software?
There are two things that do irritate me, both with the satnav. First is having to accept the same legal thing every time, and the other is the useless touch screen.

I used to be a software engineer for a tier 1 mobile phone maker. Solving media issues are nightmare because shear number of format and variable performance of all sort of devices. Total 10,000 bugs on mobile platform were reported 6 months before product launch. Hundred software developers flew to Taiwan OEM factory on bug fixing. It was very expensive to solve user interface issues.

For MG, media issue may not be their priority. Maybe that is why many mobile phone makers are making cars. They could beat traditional car makers on infotainment system.

I have never had such a problem on either a gen 1 or gen 2 ZSEV: when set to a radio station (always DAB in my case) the car simply starts up again & plays the last selected station.

MG is a car. It does the job.

MG has a long way to go as a premium brand as a media player. Resetting is a simple way to make things working consistently.

I had the second service on our face lift ZS EV done about two weeks ago, I asked if they could check if there were any updates available for the info unit, as occasionally when booting up the car, it would default to the Sat Nav screen.
Some times it would be fine, but on a bad day it would not allow the radio to display any radio station on the screen, it would just say “Unknown”.
A hard reset with the “Home” button was required.
So, the dealer applied an update to the head unit, this resulted in the car then disabling both of the front safety system of the car and flagged up warnings on the dash !.
One week later and back to the dealer.
The update was removed and reinstalled twice and this failed to cure the problem.
The info unit then received a full reset via the MG software but this failed also.
MG CS had been sent the data pid file of the car and they then instructed the dealer to update the firmware of the BCM in order to reset the default to “ON” when stating, for the forward collision and emergency braking.
It’s been about five days since having the car back and all appears to be okay ref this problem.
At the moment, the car now boots straight into the Home screen without bringing up the Sat Nav ( but time will tell ) but strangly, it brings up the desired / memorable radio station, but the sound / music 🎶 is muted 🔕.
You have to press either the play button o the screen or press the mute button on the steering wheel in order for the radio station to play any audio ?.
I am unsure if this is an intended feature of the latest update now, our it has a bug 🐜 in the system 🤣
One things is 100.% for sure, it’s not going back in again !.
Having had both models of the ZS EV now over four years and about 30,000 miles, I get a cold shiver down my back when the mention of the word “Software Update” is announced by the dealer.
Applying updates is a risky business and can produce more problems than it can cure.
Personally, if the problem is small then live with it 🤣 or you could be opening a can or worms 😞.
