Zs ev 52000 miles suddenly very noisy in travel, sounds like a noisy engine ??

Is there an update on this? My car has started making what seems to be the same noise. A whiney, droney noise which increases with motor speed. It’s booked in but not for another four weeks. I hope driving it won’t cause more damage.

If it were me, I would immediately check the oil level in the transmission, or get it checked by a garage. I note that in the annual service done on my car recently, the oil was changed as one would expect.

I refer to the device under the bonnet that is intended to make pedestrians and road users aware that a vehicle is approaching. In most ZS EV models this noise is well muted and it is difficult to tell whether it is active or not.

I’m not convinced that MG’s have this do they ? My zs definitely didn’t make any noise when driving around slowly and it was a gen 2. Or maybe it did and was just another thing that didn’t work ..

My ZS (72 plate) doesn't have a VESS (Virtual Engine Sound System). You can hear the whine of the motor though, so maybe they thought this was enough.

Th electric motor is so noisy it doesn't need a VESS system - not exactly a badge of honour! 😅

Agree though, it may well be the case.

On my previous Ioniq you could switch the VESS off, but I hear the later versions you can't, likely due to the regs change...

Well my gen1 definitely has one and you can turn it on and off using the touch screen - I tried turning it on and off and it makes little difference. You can find the unit in the engine bay on the offside.

Genuinely out of interest where exactly was the option to do that…I thought I knew the touch screen options pretty well including of course all the mg pilot options..I don’t recall seeing that as an option 🤔

I can't remember - it was a long time ago. I seem to remember it was called something like Pedestrian Alert System or similar. It was quite deep in the options.

Must have been as I never found it 😂 strange because it also couldn’t have been activated from new because on several occasions I attempted to get people to listen to the car to see if it did it…oh well.

It’s the last item in the car settings menu. On mine it makes a noticeably louder version of the motor whine. Switch it off and all you can hear is a very quiet whine from the motor, switch it on and the motor whine seems much louder. It only operates between 1 and 18 mph.
