Can anyone help? Bought a NEXAS OBD2 dongle, and using Car Scanner it connects to the dongle ok but it keeps saying can't connect to the car ECU. It goes round trying every protocol and failing. Maybe I have the wrong profile? I set it to MG5 2021-22. See screenshot.
Thanks P

It might be the profile. I do remembers someone saying there was a profile for MG ICE.

This is the same problem I have with both my OBD dongles and it matters not which profile I choose. Annoying really as I like looking at the info in a geeky sort of way.

Or it might be a dongle that won’t work whatever software you have.

I know my FL5 ignores my old ones that have worked in every other ICE car.

And then there’s the iOS vs Android problems.

My original dongle worked fine on my ZS EV but not on the 5, so I bought one recommended by someone on here that worked with their 5......but no luck on mine, so who knows 🤷‍♂️

The best I can get is setting the profile to Roewe eRX5 in Car Scanner, which connects and gives some data, but sadly not the SOH or anything else useful - they come out as zero or blank.

I also bought a dongle, recommended here, and had no luck with the battery SOH.

Could those with a problem indicate whether they are on Android or IOS?
My (working) setup is on Android.

I think the problem is based on the model of car, rather than the phone OS. I've made a couple of posts about my issues previously here and here.

In summary, the car scanner pro basic MG OBD profile (that doesn't work with my car) says it uses SAE J1979/ISO 15031-5 to communicate. However, the stuff that works uses a different protocol, ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 500 kbaud), and a different ECU Address of 7EB. These values seem more consistent with some of the facelift scans I've seen around on these forums.

So I think all of the people with problems are probably running a car from the second half of 2021 onward. It's possibly limited to people with adaptive cruise control, but I'm not sure.

Either way, using the eZS app instead of Car Scanner should give a battery health report and software version info.

I should add that the Nexlink dongle should work fine with the eZS app. However, some of the iCar Pro dongles recommended here will not work properly with the eZS app, as they don't support all of the relevant features.

I've got car scanner and it works with my mg5 pre fl sr.
I'll connect it tomorrow and have a look at the car/ profile settings, but it works fine except the motor speed..
It shows 160+mph no matter what😁

I just tried eZS app and it works quickly and perfectly for me! MG5 PFL LR, 2021, with Nexas dongle, I can now see the SOH of 98.48% which isn't bad for 16,000 miles. Thanks for the tip!

SoH is calculated based on a degradation model that takes various factors into account (i.e cell age and mileage driven).

At the end of the day this is an estimate though, therefore to get the actual battery capacity one needs to slow charge (10-100%) on a regular basis.

Might be interesting to see if your value changes afterwards….

I bought a NEXAS NexLink OBDII dongle in 2023 and it worked perfectly with Car Scanner Pro on my 2022 pre-facelift MG5.

Now, the app shows no data at all, using either the MG5 (2021-2022) profile, or the suggested Roewe alternative.

I have sent a message (and error log from the app) to the developer asking for assistance in restoring the app's functionality! I wonder whether there has been a recent update to the app which has caused this problem? Though I do see that other posters to this thread have never been able to access data for their cars.

I will, hopefully, report back on what I am told.

I have the same ODB2 used with Car Scanner on my MG5 ev 2023 no problems.

Does the eZS app work for you? Is yours the Excite or the Exclusive?
