it is probably your cable. I have an MG5 and charge at my office which have 11kW chargers. The standard MG cable that came with the car was only giving me a 3.6kW charge as it was a single phase cable so it could only pull a third of the 3 phase 11kW charge. I bought a 3 phase cable from Amazon...
No. We’ve had this discussion on different threads. The 11kw and 22kw chargers are 3 phase so you would get a third of that with a single phase 32A cable. I have both a 32A single and 32A 3 phase type 2 cable and have used both on my office 11kw chargers. I get 3.3kwh from the single and 10kwh...
On a 11kw charger I regularly use I get around 10Kwh charging with a 3 phase cable vs only 3.3kwh with a single phase cable. There’s definitely a benefit spending a little bit more on a 3 phase if you need a new cable.
I bought a 3 phase cable as my work has installed 3 phase chargers so I can get the maximum charge rate when I work. We had a discussion on another thread that you only need a 3 phase cable if you have access to a higher charging type 2 unit eg 11kw or 22kw as vast majority of public and home...
I have a new official MG type 2 cable (in the MG bag) that came with my new MG5 that I’m not going to use. I will stick it on the advertising forum but if interested then let me know
I have a shell fast charge at the end of my road and it never accepts my contactless card despite my never having any problems elsewhere with the card. Luckily I have a key fob from them and that works every time (tapping the same contactless reader).
That’s good to know. So sounds like 3 phase cable is only really needed if you have regular use of a 3 phase 11kw charger (like my office) as I can get 9.9kwh rather than 3.3kwh as with even the 22kWh chargers you’ll only get an extra couple of kWh out of them with a 3 phase cable. My other...
Seems many of the home charger companies offer 22kw chargers but you are right that you would need a 3 phase supply for it. No idea of the costs of changing as a quick search suggests it depends on a lot of factors: some make it easy, some very costly. I'm not on the lookout for getting one...
My MG cable is a 32A cable as well but I am assuming it is a single phase cable based on its use. Forgive my limited knowledge, that I've only built up from research following advice given on this thread, but if you are charging at home or out and about at normal 7kw type 2 chargers then the...
Thanks for the advice on the cable as this did the job. I went out and got a 3 phase cable and have been happily using it to charge my car but today was the first time I've been back to work since my first post and my MG5 is happily pulling just short of 10 kw from the 11kw charger compared to...
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't realise the way 3 phase works. Generally a lot a varied makes down there including Tesla, Audi, BMW, Golf, Polestar etc.. Not saying they are all pulling 11kw but just when I was down there now the other 3 were (and I didn't notice the makes).
Hi Everyone,
First time on the forum and I did a search but nothing jumped out at me as answering this already. Just got a new MG5 and trying to charge it for the first time using type 2 connector at my office. The office chargers are able to provide 11kw and the other cars that are currently...
