1.5 HS PHEV TROPHY charging advice please

There is no HS PHEV automatic charging program but the HS PHEV is now compatible with the Intelligent Octpus Go tariff which enables automatic charging via the Octopus app and offers low cost electricity for car charging and household use from 11.30 pm to 5.30 am. Compatible with Zappi chargers...

    First Service

Just booked my first service and phoned around MG dealers for a few quotes which came in at GBP £287, £282 and £264 including UK Value Added Tax. Expensive for what is basically an oil and filter change but of course it maintains the warranty and includes renewal of MG Assistance breakdown cover...

MG HS PHEV mpg/range with battery depleted / Engine only

As update to my previous comments on this, I just completed a 450 mile drive in UK, mostly A1M and M74 motorway with A66 dual/single carriageway, a few traffic jams, 2 passengers with luggage, zero battery for nearly all of the way. Result: 36 mpg (7.8 L/100km). Overall consumption average over...

MG HS PHEV mpg/range with battery depleted / Engine only

Over the year I've had mine, I've made many long (450 mile) trips from SE England to Scotland, mostly with battery on minimum charge, certainly on the return trip. I don't spare the horses on the motorways, and tend to cruise at around 77 mph. In short, expect to average 40 mpg. Also be aware...

    Annoying Vibration

If the throttle linkage is electronic then the cause of the vibration is even more puzzling. Engine vibration transmitting through the bulkhead presumably.

HS Plug in - mpg & performance with battery depleted?

The battery never completely depletes so it's always there for acceleration in my experience. On petrol consumption I'm averaging 41-42 mpg over 10,000 miles which has included many long fast motorway drives with little time spent on battery.

    Annoying Vibration

Same here, still noticable after 10,000 miles though reducing a bit, and disappears when petrol engine has warmed up. Seems to be an annoying problem on all HS PHEVs and you'd think would be easy for MG to design a simple fix to damp the vibration on the throttle cable.

Thoughts on first 7 months ownership

A good summary which mirrors my thoughts, also after 7 months experience of a 2022 build/23 plate HS PHEV Exclusive! My driving has included several long trips to Scotland and one to France, Belgium and the Netherlands with a fair amount of high-speed motorway use, and fewer opportunities to use...

    Vibration in throttle pedal

Yes, me too, seems to be common, especially when engine is cold. I was hoping the vibration would subside when the petrol engine was 'run in' but it's still noticable after 7,000 miles. Quite annoying, poor design somewhere, in engine mount or throttle linkage perhaps. I think this may explain...

Front side windows, no UV protection

At last, I seem to have solved the UV and heat (IR, infra-red) transmission problem through my front side windows by having clear nano-ceramic film applied - Llumar Air 80. The previous film which blocked UV but not enough infra-red (Llumar Au85) had to be removed, all work done well by Window...

Front side windows, no UV protection

That is great news! Just to be clear (!), which was the specific film you had fitted? I assume either the Opalux SO-70IR-iSR or the Opalux SO070XLIR0iSR ? Just so I specify the right one. The latter seems to have superior visible light transmission while still rejecting infra-red and UV, while...

Keys locked inside car - not smart!

So, I did the obvious test and left keys inside the HS to see if the car would lock. It would not, so Grriff, it looks like your Faraday cage theory is correct! Surprising, since the key was not buried in the depths of the golf bag or surrounded by the golf clubs. So everyone, beware the Faraday...

Keys locked inside car - not smart!

I doubt that, the golf bag is made of vinyl and was stored in boot, actually with the key in a pocket near the top of the bag which was protruding into the passenger compartment through the lowered rear seat. Is the MG4 smarter than the HS?

Keys locked inside car - not smart!

Managed to lock myself out of the car today by accidentally leaving the key in my golf bag. Opened the electric tailgate, loaded the bag into the boot and closed the tailgate. I assumed the car was smart enough not to lock with a key inside (since I'm clearly not that smart) but I was wrong...

Front side windows, no UV protection

That looks very promising..thank you Grriff! Not specifically an automotive product but can't see any reason why it wouldn't be effective. Spec is here: https://opaluxwindowfilms.com/sites/default/files/datasheets/SO-70IR-iSR.pdf Visible light transmission 67% so borderline legal in UK but...

Front side windows, no UV protection

I've posted before (as have others) about the glass on the MG HS PHEV. The level of heat transmission through my front side windows is uncomfortable - even in the UK! I've had clear UV absorbing film (Llumar AU 85, 50 gauge) applied to both front side windows which solved the UV problem but did...

    Strange fuel gauge behaviour

Disconcerting experience yesterday when 'Refuel Now' alert showed with 34 petrol miles and 12 battery miles remaining. Over next 5 miles, petrol 'distance remaining' fell rapidly, gauge went red with no 'remaining miles' reading visible. Weirdly, electric miles remaining stayed stuck at 12 miles...

MG HS exclusive no power juddering

Sounds like the car entered 'Limp Mode' or 'Protection Mode' when the electric motor overheated (p178-9 in my copy of the Owners Handbook) or the particulate filter in the exhaust system gets clogged. The latter was a frequent issue in my old Saab diesel Sportwagon where Limp-Home mode was very...

So dangerous gearbox gap in acceleration.

Yes Colin B, same issue, in EV mode only. I agree it's potentially dangerous and deserves to be fixed as a recall. BTW, what recall issues were attended to in your service?
