    MG5 plug & auto charge

So not 'auto charge' at all then.

Manually releasing the charging port lock

Another reasonably common issue is where the cable gets pulled tight against the locking pin, wedging it in place; either at the car or charging point end. Counterintuitively the solution is to push the cable further in to the socket before trying again to unlock it by relocking then unlocking...

    Mode and KERS setting thoughts

Yes, your conclusions are pretty accurate. However, the adjustments to the response to the user input do have some (limited) effect on the overall energy consumption. It's possible to drive economical in 'sport' but it requires more precision while 'eco' gives a greater margin for error by...

Anyone modified the boot floor on an MG5 SR? What size bolts are they?

I'm looking at installing a raised floor in the boot of my 2020 SR Exclusive. Has anyone done this? There are four bolts poking up from the boot floor, to which the foam surround is anchored with some flimsy plastic 'nuts'. Thees seem like an ideal place to bolt a wooden frame to support the...

    MG's routine charging advice

The warranty is for 70% capacity. I'd be pretty unhappy to lose over 25% of my original range so I'm willing to take some simple steps to minimise degradation. It's not binary - your battery isn't suddenly going to need replacing - it's a steady decline which can be accelerated or slowed...

    MG's routine charging advice

It's objectively better to do a greater number of partial cycles in the middle of the voltage range than a smaller number of deeper cycles which approach the extremes. Shorter charging periods mean lower heat buildup. Ultimately use it however you want. There are some small efficiency benefits...

Do you have to get your air con re gassed?

I've never suggested being uncomfortably hot or cold, though I do have a range of tolerance rather than insisting that the car needs to be exactly the same temperature all year round. Put the AC or heating on as required to maintain the temperature you desire, but also dress appropriately for...

Do you have to get your air con re gassed?

It's from empirical observation based on running the car purely for cooling for a period of time. Cranking the AC up to full seems to use about 4A at 400V initially so up to 1600W. I guess that includes the fan and just running the car, so maybe I'm slightly over estimating. But multiply it by...

Do you have to get your air con re gassed?

'Hardly affects' is quite subjective - up to 4% of the battery per hour under maximum load. I prefer avoiding wasting energy where possible. In any case, I can't be bothered to try to guess the temperature to set the HVAC to so that it uses the minimum energy so I have it set to 'lo' with the AC...

    Electroverse App

You'll only get the extra credit if you sign up in April, but there's no time limit on using it.

    Electroverse App

We don't have any local, but planning a trip to London where there are quite a few. Hoping the Ubertricity ones work either with the RFID card or the app.

    Electroverse App

Anyone using the Electroverse app? Is it reliable for starting/stopping charging?

    There's no way to charge a 2021 MG5 to 80%?

I think you're over complicating it. At 6.6kW the MG5 SR charges at roughly 12.5% per hour or around 1% every 5 minutes. Simply set the timer on the charger accordingly.

    MG5 Disappearing charge

I'd be interested in knowing the model of your OBD2 dongle. I'd like to see the cell voltages.

    MG5 Disappearing charge

It possibly shows an out of balance battery. This can happen if you rapid charge a lot and don't charge to full on AC very often. It could also happen soon after rapid charging as the voltage settles. However it might indicate a weak cell so it might be worth a trip to the dealer to check the...

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

Sometimes it seems to get into a state where it won't accept charge. It happens at home occasionally where it just sits there saying 'connected, uncharged'. Unplugging, locking and walking away for a few minutes always fixes it. Instavolts usually work without issue but occasionally fail in you...

    MG5 Instavolt charging problems.

That's exactly the thing to do. The car seems to only be able to start charging within a small window. Locking the doors then starting the charge seems pretty reliable.

    MG5 SOH

While I say take sensible steps to look after your battery (without inconveniencing yourself). MG don't have a perfect record with BMS software.

    MG5 SOH

I would imagine that the initial degradation is easily hidden within the unused buffer. As the cells aren't taken close to their maximum voltage, there's no reason for the reduced capacity to become noticeable initially. When talking about a battery having a maximum usable capacity, you're...
