Yet more evidence that the MG 5 is a great car, at present they are the bargain of the second hand market now

Normal tyre wear after 18k miles?

You have done well at 18k. I am affraid my fronts did not do much more than 12k miles. But I do most of my travelling on hilly "b" roads. The KERS and constant change in speed does not help tyre wear. Mind you I was delighted to get rid of the original bridgestones which were useless.

    BG or Octopus EV tariff

I recommend Octopus go intelligent and a battery storage. I have run my house on 7.5 p power since October! The battery holds enough charge to power the house when there is no cheap power. I use the tesla power wall which is very easy to control and can charge and discharge at 5kW. The backup...

    Zappi charged delayed

Just one point on charging if you use Octopus Intelligent go when you set it up the first time make sure the system knows the battery is the 61Kw version. as the software works on % 10 % = 6.1Kw if you use the setting for the older car that would be 5.3Kw for 10%

    Zappi charged delayed

If you have a zappi 2 why not try using the octopus go intelligent tariff; it gives 6 hours cheap rate at 7.5 p/kWh. The octopus software works well on my early SR MG5.

My first year of MG5 LR Pre FL ownership

Coming up to three years with mine Been a great car,the only minor point is the grip on the front wheels is not good in slippy mud or snow as torque is so good and traction control is a bit weak! Even in eco mode it is very tricky to control spinning wheels in mud. Running costs are great as I...

I am very sorry to hear about your problem. Living in Sunny Wales I encountera lot of rain and floodwater. The other dayI drove through several areas of flooded road (at least 100mm deep) I had no problem. I dont know if there have been any design changes that affect the problem but for nearly...

Pics of other cars you've had.🙂

This has to be my ultimate fun car and was quite reliable. Worst problem I had was locking myself in the car! The car had child locks on the front door!! (Colin Chapman had bought a lot of austin 1800 rear door locks cheap?). I had to open the window and open the door with the outside door...

    Zappi with Intelligent Octopus

If all else fails re boot !!!! Hope you have a better nights sleep Fortunately I only have the Zappi to contend with as the hot water is still managed by my old i boost+ and not an eddi. Due to the nature of my house I have hardwire all the CT connections to the Zappi and the Zappi uses a...

    Non-existent parts/repair service

I was lucky, the wife crunched a rear light cluster on the MG5 and my dealer supplied a replacement part within 48 hr and the price was not too bad (1/2 the price on ebay?!!!!!) I suspect its is luck and how good the dealer is. I have always found my dealer O C Davies to be very helpfull. I...

    MG5 Pre-FL GOM query

Glad your enjoying your MG5 I think they are great cars.(very under rated) Key things to note is remember the weather makes a huge difference on your consumption. A standard route I drive ranges from 2.8 M/KWh to 5.6M/KWh. depending on temperature In addition I have noted that carried load makes...

    MG4 estate to replace MG5

As an MG 5 owner I would a 4x4 MG4 estate but would prefer it detuned a bit and the biggest battery fitted to increase range to 320 mies! also a slight increase in ground clearence would help! Meanwhile I will keep running the MG5 and the Skoda Octovia Scout which gives a range of 600 miles...

Looking at a 22 plate MG5 LR (pre faceliift) with a curious history

If in doubt leave it. There are loads around they are great cars get a good one. The ideal is one that has always been charged at home and not had too many visits to a fast charger. There are still some pre facelift models around with very low miles. Make sure that you buy the long range version...

Intelligent Octopus Go works like a dream.

I am on OGI using a Zappi 2 and tesla power wall I have had one instance when the schedule was revised and charged the car at 7.00 am and took the power out of the powerwall! I have since made sure that I tell the app that I want the car by 5.30am. As a precaution I disconnect the car at 7.00am...

    Octopus Intelligent Go says No

When you signed up the system asked you what ev and model you have I have an old Mg 5 with a 53KW battery and a zappi charger When setting the App the % charge is based upon the registered car so in my case 10% = 5.3 Kw Before charging i look at the battery state meter in the car. say it is...

    Rear screen washer failure.

This time of the year it is important to have a good winter screen washer solution (-20deg C) The freezing and expansion of the screen washer solution seems to push the pipes out of the joints! Prevention is a lot better than cure

Blue Button on End of Lighting Stalk?

In the good old days MG5s came with a printed handbook. Mind you the covid special MG5s never had the lane assist stuff fitted even though the boxes on the windscreen were in place. The light blue buttons at the end of the stalk controls are always a good way of spotting the difference

    Octopus Intelligent Go says No

It should work with a Zappi charger but as others say when you go through the set up make sure that the Zappi is the primary device. I set my early 53Kw MG5 and Zappi to IOG at the start of the month I had been previously using octopus go, the switch over was instant although i had a few...
