Both issues normal, it is essentially the battery aging, equivalent to running in a IC engine. Who cares about one mile, you've said that a heavy right foot soon reduces the battery charge level! Enjoy the car, mine has been fine during the 2 years I've driven it from new!

Yes, not an unusual situation, I get a 'Release Steering' message with nothing responding. After some time, typically 30 to 60 minutes, the message clears and all is well!
If your car comes with the Super Sport (Red) button on the steering wheel do be careful using it as the seat will hit you in the back and could cause further damage! Do take Care. See page 190 of the user Manual.
You may also get a screen Message saying 'Please Unlock Steering' caused by a front wheel hard against, say, a kerb. It does clear itself after typically an hour or so. Otherwise try the 'Hard Reset' approach.
