    MG5 Disappearing charge

One year down the line and the mystery disappearing charge cropped up again, although I think I have worked out why. The other day I completed a single 180 mile journey in miserable weather against a stong headwind and finished the journey with only a scary 7% charge left. It was late so I...

3 car seats across the back of MG5?

The MG instructions are confusing and not worded that well but I understand 'outboard' to mean either side of the rear seats (ie. not the centre position) otherwise why fit two isofix positions?

    Demister

Mine improved considerably once I removed the tapes covering the drainage holes in the bottom doors that got left there after the PDI. I also use dehumidifier packs on the dash in the winter months.

    Fast charging headache

I'm fortunate that I very rarely need to use rapid chargers, the problem with this is that I haven't developed the 'skills' to handle these beasts. I have tried to use BP Pulse on four occasions on three different chargers using a credit card. These three machines were all different in their...

    Auto headlight flashing

Worth emphasising that there are two very different issues here. One is AUTO ON/OFF the other is AUTO DIP/MAIN. Personally I've not really had a problem with the AUTO ON/OFF although you have to keep an eye on dusk/low light/bad weather situations. However the AUTO DIP/MAIN was downright dangerous!

MG5 Facelift - how to do equalisation charging

Because the granny charger is very slow, hanging around to catch the 100% point isn't really practical so I have no idea what happens at the end of the charge. I rather naively thought the cars' system might indicate that equalisation had taken place.

MG5 Facelift - how to do equalisation charging

In one year of ownership and occasional charging to 100% I have never seen any evidence of equalisation taking place. Mind you I only charge on a granny.

    MG5 Disappearing charge

Battery balance seems like the most likely answer at the moment. This thought is stirring around in my little brain - if batteries require balancing as a result of rapid charging, would they not require the same as a result of rapid dis-charging? My thinking is this, I did 175 miles to Bristol...

    MG5 Disappearing charge

Thanks for the comments. I am aware of the possible inaccuracy of the gom but I alway thought the % was pretty accurate. Infact on one occasion last summer I (accidentally) run down much lower than I intended while trying to find a charger and whilst it was a scary moment the gom and % seemed...

    MG5 Disappearing charge

Today I lost 9% of my charge with my pre-facelift 5LR sitting on the drive doing nothing. The full story is this. I drove 175 miles to home from Bristol starting with 100% battery in good weather and temperatures around 8 Deg C. A good steady journey, mostly motorway at a 65mph cruise and...

Mg5 auto lights not working at dusk

I had a heart stopping moment recently when travelling along a dark A road. As I rounded a bend the headlights picked up a car waiting at a side road junction and dipped, then almost immediately switched to main beam and back again. Clearly the headlights couldn't decide what to do. Needless to...

Heating up the car while still charging

I did this yesterday for the first time in my pre-facelift MG5 and it worked fine except you can't lock the car.

    Curious display error

Driving yesterday on a mild and quite pleasant day we noticed the outside temperature display was showing -40! This seemed to have no affect on the car's heating and everything was comfortable and normal inside. Also we noticed that the time information had disappeared too. Once home I restarted...

Granny home charging instead of Type 2?

Hmm. Not sure about that. The MG manual refers to them as 'Residential charging device' and a 'home charging kit'. Is there evidence that they 'fail quicker'? Done getting on for 6K miles in my car 99% charged on a granny with absolutely no issues of any kind. Can't be said of the 3 times I've...

Granny home charging instead of Type 2?

I realise line voltage is bad enough (240V AC) but surely the in-car charger has built in protection to prevent DC battery voltage becoming live through the lead? I have a granny charger which can supply 6, 8,10 or 13A. 6A is perfect for me as the car is on the drive much of the time during...

Granny home charging instead of Type 2?

Is 'the safety issue' detailed somewhere? Not something I'm aware of. Anyone know of a report from the HSE or other official body.

Granny home charging instead of Type 2?

Just for balance, I have only used a granny charger since I bought the car in March. It works perfectly well for my situation and I have no intention to change. Obviously I am happy with the state of my electrics and I plug into a garage ring which doesn't usually have any other load. If these...

    Demisting

Thanks for the advice. Yes, the sealing tapes on the front doors were still there, not on the rear though! Next trip out is tomorrow so lets see if things are better...🤞

    Demisting

Excellent, I look forward receiving mine. I noticed something else today. As I said earlier as it was such a nice day I opened the windows fully for a couple of hours for some fresh air to waft through. When I closed them again the front passenger one came up with water droplets on so clearly...

    Demisting

Well, I've ordered the dehumidifier bags and as it is currently dry and warm I've left all the windows open. I've had the car since March and this is the first time I have had this issue but doesn't bode well for the winter months. I'm also going to apply some demisting solution that I use on...
