The car as a person - or possibly a pet

Yep, I also drive an 'Ernie'. No doubt for exactly the same reason!

Seeing more and more EVs around - very rarely a MG

Yeah, mostly Teslas and E-trons around our way, plus a couple of vans (Merc I think, just saw the green flash on the numberplate) Plus one other MG5 that parks at the local train station...

    All electric house.

from Octopus: "It’s your energy supplier’s job to remove your gas meter and make sure the incoming gas supply is capped. Right now, because we get so few requests, we offer this service for free. Once the meter has been removed and the supply has been capped, you won’t have to pay a daily...

Do we need friction brakes anymore?

so not KERS as such (as in recovering power) but powered resistance (so consuming power to apply a braking force). Might make it difficult to stop when your battery goes flat though...

EV Etiquette with Mr (& Mrs) EV

Quite possibly. Being the parent of an ASD and ADHD child (and recognising some of those symptoms in myself - it is genetic after all) I can see how this could be a major issue for people who genuinely don't want to (or more to the point, find it extremely difficult to) interact with random...

Do you use AC when you want to warm up

That sounds a bit overkill though. Does that mean that the cooling system that is used for cabin A/C is also used for battery cooling?

How does this stack up to MG battery advice?

Different chemistry? I remember my old nokia house brick had a battery 'conditioner' that completely discharged and recharged the battery to prevent 'memory effect'.

    admin please sort

Welcome to the internet. I must say, I have always been amazed by the shortage of knobheads and trolls on this forum. They were bound to find us eventually though... I loved the way on most of the posts that everyone just carried on as if it wasn't there and on the assumption that it'll get...

Saving Money In Your Motor Insurance!

Yeah - always check a cashback site. My preferred option is Quidco https://www.quidco.com/raf/2324350/ I've had well over a grand out of them in cashback - and I don't use them blindly. I'll only use a cashback if it's the best deal around. unlike bwanamdevu though, I do get something out of...

    Gridserve excellence

I'm guessing they mean at a rate of 30kW FOR about 30 mins, unless Gridserve are only charging about 18p/KwH. Thought they were over 30p these days? so- great news on the increasing suitability of the charging network, and a quick example of why the difference between KW and KWh is quite...

    Octopus Go Referral Link

Yeah - Microsoft PowerBI Desktop (a free utility) is my personal favourite. We use it at work (in it's paid for online service capacity). Just pull in your data and graph away, and it connects straight to the Octopus API using the JSON connector. In the absence of a working IHD (issues...

    What’s the etiquette?

I don’t have the sticker in my window as a rule, but then the only time I used a rapid was for 10 mins to try it out. It’s in the glove box to pop on the dash off I ever do though. Either way, it’ll still work from my reg. I assume most of those on this forum would be on it as it’s come up...

    Podpoint releasing

I generally stand by the port when i unlock the car with the key as you can hear the little motor when it unlocks the plug. I’m sure I read on here that it locks again fairly sharpish, so be at the front, unlock the car, hear the plug unlock then pull. Don’t be pulling the plug and unlocking at...

    Electricity prices to rise?

That makes 2 of us. You took out avro, and I left green (for Octopus and Zog!) Still waiting for a final (£85ish) bill from green, and am about £200 in credit….

Has owing an EV or PHEV made you more conscious of home energy use?

No. I'm from Yorkshire. I was always tight. kept an eye on consumption and energy costs, switch supplier every year for the cheapest price etc. The only difference is that some items are now scheduled to charge / run in the Octopus GoFaster period. I try to avoid making our lass's evening...
