If you sit in the car without it plugged into a charger and want the aircon on, or even the radio, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you fully power up the car into the READY state. Failure to do so will quickly drain the 12V battery and require the AA.
There is no issues with staying in the car while it is charging. You can even turn it on and have the aircon running. Make sure you turn it all the way on (foot on brake pedal) as just having it powered on the 12V battery can quickly drain it and make starting the car a nightmare.
To begin...
Well done Les. The MG5 whether LR or SR is a very efficient BEV. The LR version goes as far as the LR version of the New ZS EV, but it has a battery that is 10kWh smaller !
That sounds worrying. Will be the screen rebooting, not the car. Assume your driver Screen remained active? Just the screen in the centre console rebooted?
That is odd. I borrowed the LR version for a few days and it always stopped at 95% SOC. I spoke to the dealer about it and MG told them it was a “feature” of charging the LR battery to protect it. Further investigation needed I think.
Maybe take the car to a Rapid and from known percentage fill...
The answer to the OPs question is….
It’s as long as a piece of string. There are too many parameters that allow a definite figure to be given.
However, on a 50kW charger then allow about 45 mins to an hour. Will depend on LR or SR version as well.
Here was mine from summer driving. SR MG5…
Still had 20% SOC after the journey.mixture of B-Roads, A-Roads and city driving.
I did recently test drive the long-range version for a few days and that would easily do 270 miles even in 6DegC ambient.
