Falling out of love with OVO

Octopus Go does not split domestic and EV use, it is worth installing a domestic battery, charge it off peak and pay most of your usage at the current price of 12p.

Falling out of love with OVO

I can see my smart meter data with Loop and Hugo, both Android apps. If you can see yours your provider has no excuse.

    Octopus energy tariffs

When charging the car the battery will output through max inverter capacity and the rest will come from the grid (3.6kw from inverter and 3.4kw from grid I think). Make sure your battery is not feeding the EV during off peak hours when it should be charging.

Poll on owning & using a Type 2 "fast" charge cable

I own and carry one just in case I might need it. Also my domestic charger is untethered and so are my employers.

Battery Degradation- I know it’s the Telegraph, but….

I have done 14k miles in 10 months with mostly DC rapid charging, SOH is still 100%.

    3 phase charger cable help

Type 2 has a protocol to start charging, the car and the charger talk to each other. From the photo you have just a 3 phase plug, you need an EV charger in between. No approved electrician should attempt to bypass that EV charger, the car could end up in flames. Having said that the ZS can use...

    Dacia 'Springs' into Action

Peugeot 107 has 68bhp and does 0 to 60 in under 14s. The Spring does it under 20s so people will floor it all the time which will put a strain on the battery

Are high day rate time of use tariffs better than the variable rate?

Best solution is to invest in a battery system (solar if possible) with a capacity to cover daily usage then go on Octopus Go and fill up that battery for domestic use bringing all usage to 7.5p/kw Peak/daily rate becomes irrelevant

    EV Costs

I doubt the depreciation of an EV would be that much over 4 years. Look up salary sacrifice lease, it will cost you less that that estimated depreciation. To keep an old ICE running over 4 years will cost you something around £2k in my experience. Other second hand EV's are available, Hyundai...

I have noticed this smart meter nonsense, looks like a coordinated campaign.

OVO Drive new 5p charge anytime

Octopus Go and the likes make sense if EV usage is greater than domestic use (7.5+31)/2=19.25p/KW on average. I'm on 23p/kw with Scottish Power from this January so I am in no rush to switch. Alternatively a domestic battery around 10kwh could shift nearly all domestic usage to nighttime cheap...

OVO Drive new 5p charge anytime

I have a home charger already, if I pay for one of theirs to get the 5p deal instead of 7.5p Octopus offers I'd have to drive 80k miles to break even. The only reason I can think of for them to impose their charger is to avoid people charging domestic batteries with cheap electricity.

    Free Charging

Octopus Agile is like this but requires an Ohme charger. If they had a decent day rate I would switch, atm I am on Scottish Power 15p/kw
