BS Guy Martin on Ch 4

Just watched it all - I usually like Guy and for most of this it was his normal stuff. The range test and 50 mile from home parts almost felt like it was tagged on for a purpose. As for the 50 miles - he should probably have concluded "Yes, if you can buy one with enough range to easily cover...

    Say Hello

Welcome to the fun world of the MG5, and congratulations on picking the correct colour (even if it is a bugger to keep clean).

    Say Hello

Even at 200 miles, that give you a great range with 40+ left to find a charge if/when needed. Not exactly anxiety inducing. :)

    Say Hello

Welcome, and I must say, great choice on the MG5. More than enough range to never worry about getting down to single digit percentage left and proper useable room inside. The long range version just extends that even more.

Do you ‘coast’ in your EV? Is it just a complete waste of time and energy or a useful option?

Coasting in Neutral makes more sense in an ICE car when you can dip the clutch and disconnect the engine from the drivetrain and roll freely. Neutral in an EV is purely an electronics 'game'. The motor is always connected to the wheels, so feathering the power to be 0% used is exactly what...

    Say Hello

To be fair, in an MG5, a 120 round trip will not be range anxiety inducing road trip even with motorway and winter.

    Scottish members- where are you?

Well it would have been a DC charger, so at least it wasn't a "crime-sine-wave". Sorry about that - couldn't resist(or).

What's this "petrol" they speak of?

Something feels odd with that. I've had my car for a month, done nearly 1,400 miles and it's cost £40. And that was with several Instavolt charges. I'm not expecting the next 1,500 to cost as much!

How old are you? Quick poll

It's like a speed limit. Think of it as being 'up to 63'. Far safer to be below a limit like that....it's more fun too.

How old are you? Quick poll

25! that's a bit sophisticated. Quite often I get the question "what do I get him for Christmas./Birthday?". My usual answer - "Most blokes are really just 12 at heart, buy him a Scalextric". It's never failed yet!

But have a stiff drink and a sit down before you do.

How old are you? Quick poll

Ooo, I feel positively teenage at the ripe old age of 52

    Say Hello

Fun filled for sure. Charging is the big difference with the old ICE technology, but it quickly becomes as difficult as charging a mobile phone, and Oh boy, the benefits of EV's are so much better. One word of caution though - great as it all may be, don't forget that you're still an "early...

What's this "petrol" they speak of?

This weekend I saw Diesel at £1.52 at a service station on the M6. Ouch!

    The revolution gathers pace.

After the first few miles in an EV you wonder why we've put up with rattling petrol or diesels for so long. I just can't imagine going back.

    Electric Highway upgrade map

..And been broken for a week by the looks of it. If Gridserve hopes to repair the image of the Electric Highway this isn't the best way to go about it.

What's this "petrol" they speak of?

It's hard to overestimate the level of smug I feel when I leave my local Tesco and have to drive past their petrol forecourt after getting over 20 miles of free charge. I know we'll get taxed for something extra at some point, but for now it's pretty damned sweet.

What car did you replace with your MG?

Should be picking my black MG5 up at the weekend. My old 15 plate Dacia Logan Diesel is off to my eldest son. It's been a brilliant car but now with 103,000 on the clock it wont start liking the short journeys I tend to do now. I used to easily get 70+ MPG and once managed 93 from Bristol to...
