Looks like Instavolt have opened some new chargers at a holiday park just outside Conwy - a very good alternative to the temperamental PodPoint unit at Lidl
I installed a wifi timer for my 210 litre hot water tank - immersion is set to 60oC for safety reasons. It uses between 6 and 9kWh each night offpeak
The gas boiler is quicker, but think I’ve set it to around 50oC but have the Thermal Disinfection mode (high temp to kill bacteria) turned on...
I’ve (maybe) got a three phase feed - well, certainly got three cables each going to it’s own fuse - but only one fuse connected to meter. Considered trying to get a three phase meter but can’t see any need 🤷♂️
Not sure what you currently have, or what appliances you’re running at same time as charging car - but do you need a 100A fuse? I’ve got an 80A and never seen my Hypervolt throttle back - less chance now I’ve removed the electric shower too
I’ve got an 80A fuse but Hypervolt will throttle if needs to. From last night, charging with dishwasher and washing machine running along with the 150W base load of house - smart meter showed 9kWh usage - so 39 amps (assuming 230V for purposes of calculations).
I’ve seen more before I removed...
Generally travel at 65mph on ACC but A55 might have been nearer 60mph and accident on M6 meant a satnav detour through Preston so slower speeds - ended up being a bottom numbing 3.5 hour drive which was far too long for everyone.
The 2nd leg was faster but hillier too. All driven on Eco with...
Left Conwy at 90% and arrived at Burton-in-Kendal at 34% (after a detour through Preston) and all chargers full (including an MG5 on a 350kW unit). I circled around and both the 50kW units were free this time, so popped on for 50 minutes until 90% and got back to Glasgow with 6% left (ABRP still...
Can’t advise really as I’m based in the West, but assuming you’re coming up the A1, would it be worth rapid charging at one of the Park & Ride areas on the bypass? Is ChargePlace Scotland still free in Edinburgh?
At 130 miles, using middle 60% of 57kWh gives about 34kWh to use - this needs 3.8 miles per kWh. Not sure I’ll achieve that loaded with roofbox. If I go to 10% on arrival, gives 40kWh usable so only need 3.25 kWh which is achievable.
So, yeah - so long as I can get to around 83% charge and...
10am checkout so likely top up to 80%+ at Lidl PodPoint as the cheapest option - but if busy I might justify a drive along A55 the night before leaving - to try this or the Ecotricity unit.
I’m about 130 miles to burton-in-Kendal services, at motorway speed & fully loaded with a roof box and...
The Lidl PodPoint can get busy so I’m grabbing free AC at Tesco when shopping - when heading back north will likely use the Tesla at Flint Mountain - just for novelty - to get enough to reach the new Gridserve hub on M6.
Wish there were a few 7kW units in the various car parks though - even...
Used it earlier today - worked on 2nd attempt and averaged 48 kWh from around 60% to 82%. An Ioniq hybrid was on AC and a similar Ioniq BEV model popped on CCS after me
I think the Instavolts were charging, they took a £20 pre-payment but refunded immediately when charge failed - only free (I hope!) due to being started by call centre.
Not tried anywhere else yet - Lidl at Llandudno Junction was busy or would have used this as only £0.28 per kWh - but did...
Mine is on rear of house, behind a fence and gate that separates the house from the driveway. I’ve got a garage but that needs replaced & contains freezer/roofbox and never a car, so chose not to install changer there. I’ve got a 10 meter Hypervolt and since I reverse into driveway, a 10m cable...
Tried the two new Instavolt next to McDonalds Rhyl - left hand unit would start but stopped after 1 second, on both attempts, so tried the right hand one - similar issues except card reader display not working. Called helpdesk and they got me to try the app (same outcome as left hand unit) but...
