Those screenshots look good - I might try that app.
It'd be great if it all worked easier in real time. My ABRP kind of does and I used it instead of Google Maps on my last big trip. I found it pretty good - especially as my wife is no help at all in doing any searches for chargers whilst on...
I finished my third big trip in April - down to south of France. I used ABRP live data - via an annoying OBD connector. Few teething issues, but it did help a bit - updated the route to let me know I could drive a bit further to the next charger, which saved time on a 400+ mile journey. It also...
Sounds like the main thing to do - which I stupidly didn't for my first trip - is to plan the charging stop in advance so the options are known. When I do trips it's mostly going to be motorway driving, so stopping in services would be best if possible.
As soon as I found a working charger all...
That'll be all these Brits using Imperial measurments - it's taken me a while to get used to it. For some reason I measure my runs and cycle rides in Km but all car journeys are now in Miles. I've only been living here for 20 odd years!
Yes - my post was really about how to handle longer trips. I am certainly expecting to do most of my driving without needing public chargers - just using a home charger.
I think that for most longer trips it should work fine - drive for 2-3 hours then take a break for 30-60 mins whilst...
Thanks for the helpful info. I wish I'd been a little less blase.. my trip was 120 miles to the in laws, lunch etc then heading home 5 or so hours later. Arrived with 30% battery. . No worries I thought. I'll plug in the granny charger and top up a bit. . Heading home it had added 5%.!! We...
I'm about to embark on my first longish trip in my new MG5 and just wondered how most people handle routing? Zap map seems good but do people use that instead of our as well as Google maps? Any other apps people use for finding chargers enroute?
Thanks all for the responses. I feel like a bit of a numpty for the question now, but also really appreciate the explanations of the pros and cons - especially @Lovemyev 's
@Jomarkh Thanks for that. I chose a non-tethered option as I thought it would be a bit more flaxible and didn't really want to just leave the cable on the charger.
I can see that the Type two cable costs a fair bit - so I don't get one with the car then?
Not sure what you mean by "Granny" box...
Hi all. I'm (hopefully shortly) about to receive my first ever brand new car - and it's a MG5 EV
We're lucky enough to have off-street parking and I've ordered a home Charge point via Pod-Point.
Been a bit of a palaver so far - filling in the forms for the govt grant etc - and there seems to be...
