ev charger

A charging station, also known as a charge point or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, neighborhood electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrids).
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electric power, while most electricity is delivered from the power grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, commonly known as the "onboard charger". At an AC charging station, AC power from the grid is supplied to this onboard charger, which produces DC power to charge the battery. DC chargers facilitate higher power charging (which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters) by building the converter into the charging station instead of the vehicle to avoid size and weight restrictions. The station then supplies DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter. Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of international standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to charge a wide variety of vehicles that utilize competing standards.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas. Private charging stations are typically found at residences, workplaces, and hotels.

    Can't charge

This week I have upgraded my MG4 to the MGS5 but I'm having issues getting the car to charge. I have a ZAPPI charger and am using Octopus Intelligent GO. When i plug the car in, the zappi says "waiting for surpless" and is on the eco+ setting. The Octopus app sets up a shedule as it should...

Hi, has anyone replaced a EV charger? I had a pod point installed a few years ago by pod point, so all the electrics is ready and in place. EV charger cover ⚡

I bought some plastic storage boxes the other week, and I discovered one was exactly the right size to cover my home EV charger, so I set about making this. I know these chargers are meant to withstand the weather, but this gives it a bit more protection from the wind and rain, and from fading...

MG4, Zappi and Octopus Intelligent Go

This is a heads up for anybody with the above gear but I also know it's happened with other cars and maybe other chargers used with Octopus. A month ago a neighbour with identical gear as us had a problem, his car wouldn't charge for 2 days and he had no schedule. It took quite a while of...

    adjustable EV charger?

Hello everyone. We currently have a Vestel wallbox and Alpha ESS home battery (10kWh) and solar. At peak performance the solar will generate just under 5kW, max output on the battery is 4.8kW. Do I really need an 'proper' EV charger?

I've had my MG5 for 2 weeks now and have been charging it from the 'granny' charger. I could install a proper Type 2 charger but it's going to cost around £1000. I can charge the car to 50% overnight with the granny (it delivers 2.2 kW). 50% of charge per day (~100 miles) is more than enough for...

MG ZS LR 22 plate at a home with 6.6Kwh of solar panels and a smart meter, 'old' (2020) PodPoint charger 7Kwh but not compatible with Octopus. I see Octopus offer a choice of 4: Zappi, Hypervolt, Ohme Home Pro and Ohme Epod. (we also have a 70 plate Renault Zoë) Before I blow a grand I'd be...

    Granny charger hilarity

I apologise for asking a dippy question but in a bit of a bind! I’m no newbie to EV’s having been driving them for over a decade (scarily!), and we know that granny chargers are a back up option unless you rarely use the car. We always use the dual wallbox at home with no dramas. However...

Hi all. I've done a search but can't find the exact same issue I'm currently having. I had a Wallbox Pulsar Max home EV charger installed yesterday, and since then our WiFi has been intermittent. It isn't the broadband, as test show there is a decent speed to the router, but all WiFi enabled...
