first year service
The First-Year Experience (FYE)—also known as the Freshman-Year Experience or the Freshman Seminar Program—refers to a range of programs implemented at colleges and universities in the United States to help students transition from high school to higher education. These initiatives often include academic seminars, orientation activities, mentoring, and co-curricular programming intended to improve student engagement, retention, and academic success.
The modern First-Year Experience movement emerged at the University of South Carolina in the 1970s and has since become a model for similar initiatives worldwide.
Programs vary in format and duration but typically combine academic coursework with community building experiences and skills training for new students.
