tesla

Nikola Tesla ( TESS-lə; Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Тесла, pronounced [nǐkola têsla]; 10 July [O.S. 28 June] 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without receiving a degree, gaining practical experience in the early 1880s working in telephony and at Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. In 1884 he emigrated to the United States, where he became a naturalized citizen. He worked for a short time at the Edison Machine Works in New York City before he struck out on his own. With the help of partners to finance and market his ideas, Tesla set up laboratories and companies in New York to develop a range of electrical and mechanical devices. His alternating current (AC) induction motor and related polyphase AC patents, licensed by Westinghouse Electric in 1888, earned him a considerable amount of money and became the cornerstone of the polyphase system which that company eventually marketed.
Attempting to develop inventions he could patent and market, Tesla conducted a range of experiments with mechanical oscillators/generators, electrical discharge tubes, and early X-ray imaging. He also built a wireless-controlled boat, one of the first-ever exhibited. Tesla became well known as an inventor and demonstrated his achievements to celebrities and wealthy patrons at his lab, and was noted for his showmanship at public lectures. Throughout the 1890s, Tesla pursued his ideas for wireless lighting and worldwide wireless electric power distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs. In 1893, he made pronouncements on the possibility of wireless communication with his devices. Tesla tried to put these ideas to practical use in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project, an intercontinental wireless communication and power transmitter, but ran out of funding before he could complete it.After Wardenclyffe, Tesla experimented with a series of inventions in the 1910s and 1920s with varying degrees of success. Having spent most of his money, Tesla lived in a series of New York hotels, leaving behind unpaid bills. He died in New York City in January 1943. Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity following his death, until 1960, when the General Conference on Weights and Measures named the SI unit of magnetic flux density the tesla in his honor. There has been a resurgence in popular interest in Tesla since the 1990s.

    Pre heating and Tesla charger

I drove to Leeds and back in the last few days and thought I'd give the Tesla charger at Trumpington (Cambridge) a go. On the way up I only seemed to get 30-35 kW on the way back down I thought I'd give the battery pre-heating a try and put it on 30 mins before the stop and charged at 70-75kW...

I had to do 250 mile unplanned trip up north yesterday, left my house with 40% and proceeded to the Banbury Superchargers, this was my first public charge with my MG4 (only had it 2wks) I've also never used a supercharger before so was a little unsure of the process, well, everything went...

    Tesla charger Purdy Lodge

Used the Tesla chargers at Purdy Lodge for my last long trip, the XPower peaked at 140.1 kW charging speed and went from 14% (22 miles) to 57% (106 miles in 16 minutes. Power dropped to 71 kW at around 55% charge. Starting with 92% charge in Leeds, that was enough to get me to Edinburgh with...

Tesla supercharger debits me in multiples of kWh, what’s the rounding logic?

Whenever I visit a Tesla supercharger, it seems to debit my account in multiples of the price per kWh at that time. How does it perform the rounding of the last few Wh delivered between me stopping the charge and the charger disconnecting? At speeds above 70kW I can understand it well takes less...

    MG4 vs Tesla Model 3

I've owned an MG4 Trophy for just over a year and am generally happy with it now I have R46 software and am learning to live with the LKA. I'm not overly impressed by MG UK and the dealership experience but hopefully if I keep the MG I will not need to use the dealers too much. I've always...

Tesla has tweeted “To celebrate the continued opening of our network to all EVs, non-Tesla EVs get their first Supercharging session for free until Jan 6, 2024” NB I assume this is just for their open chargers. With nacs being adopted by most us manufacturers, the competition between the tesla standard and CCS Type 2 has hotted-up (occasionally literally) quite a bit. 'There can be only one', said the highlander, so was he right and if so which? Afaik the us system is physically far superior (i.e...
