I had my first extended day in the S5 LR today and it relieved me of some of my range anxiety.

For those familiar with the south of the UK, I had to drive from Biggin Hill to Cambridge, to a village near Ware, to Acton and back to BH. A total of 184 miles.

I have only owned an EV for a couple of weeks and I had never driven one before that, so I was slightly overcome with range anxiety. I also only have a Granny charger and a seven hour overnight tariff, so some calculations had to be made.

But I managed to leave with the car three minutes shy of 100% (which is perfect, as you're not supposed to leave it sitting at 100%), and got home with 44% in the tank, having averaged 5.3 miles per kWh.

It has done much to relieve me of RA, I am now much more comfortable with the capabilities of the car.

Don't worry about that 100% thing, as long as you don't leave it at 100% and go off for weeks at a time. I charge my car to 100% every night and use it every day. Congrats on the new car :)

I didn't note that, sorry. But my consumption from new is also 5.3. Is that unusually good?

Drive it for a few weeks in different conditions and you'll get a better idea.

Sounds to me like you’re well on the way to having it sussed. Between you and the car you’ll soon settle into the groove. Anywhere around 5 sounds great to me - I get 3.7 every mile with my e Berlingo and I’m happy. Enjoy your driving 👍

...ah, I had nothing to compare it with. I seem to be doing something right!

I did try it in Sport mode on some back roads, and it was impressive and fun, but I didn't really get the point for ordinary driving.

At 6.7p per kWh, I am obviously not doing it for financial economy, just for range.

Aye , occasionally I tweak the control to the top “power” setting on the Berlingo but it’s just silly on a vehicle like that it’s too fast for the suspension. Citroen do advise that the power setting is advised for fully loaded vehicles on hills and / or when towing - and I tend to agree.

If you consider the usable battery 47.1 or 62.1 that level of efficiency would be giving you ranges of 249 or 329 miles, better than the combined WLTP figures

Yes, the range 100% to empty feels like about 330 miles if you add what I've done to what remains in the battery.

But, of course, I'm never going to take it anywhere near empty. I'm a professional pilot, it would be a complete anathema!

I guess that I am driving it much more carefully than they are allowed to in WLTP. My understanding of WLTP is that it is supposed to reflect ordinary drivers who are not really giving very much thoughts to economy, whereas I am fixated on it!

Watt a Lot o’ TriPe is what it really stands for - I much prefer your philosophy 👍
