2025 MG S5 EV DRL PROBLEM (daytime running lights)

Ok guys, thank you everyone for your replies. Now i understand that there is nothing wrong with DRLs, it is a safety feature. I was in Regen 3 mode, i was coming to a stop behind the lorry without touching brake pedal, the car was gradually slowing down itself, you can see it on Dashcam speed. Only the last second i touched brake pedal to stop completely. Possibly the car didn't like that i am coming to a something big in front of me and i am not touching the brakes. I would say it is a bit strange way of warning. Am sure the lorry driver didn't notice it. Even if he did, he wouldn't have time to react to it 🙄

If the lights are set to position 2, per the manual ‘
Side Lamp/Switch Illumination and Backlights

When the vehicle is powered on, turn the master light

switch to position 2 to switch on the side lamps/daytime

running lamps, switch illumination and backlights.’

If you leave and lock the car it doesn’t seem either to sound an alarm to indicate the lights are left on, nor switch them off automatically after some period. I can understand needing to park showing lights but some warning alarm would be useful in case it’s not intentional. Other cars sound a warning if you open the door with lights on.

Is this normal for the S5 to do nothing and gradually drain the battery. I noticed a dash warning message ‘lights on’ when getting back into the car, but sort of shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.

I figured it out.

If you swipe down on the infotainment screen and select power off, before you exit the vehicle, you will get a warning that you have left the lights on when you open the door.

If you simply open the door and then step out you will not get the lights on warning. When you lock the car, it powers off and then you get the warning when opening the doors to get back in.

So if you are prone to leaving the lights on, as I am, it is possibly good practice to always power off before exiting.

I got a Dashcam connected to the USB located on a rear view mirror panel (at the top of the windscreen). As soon as i sit in a car, the power comes on and the Dashcam comes on and starts recording. If i leave the car and walk away without locking it (for example at home on my drive while i am bringing my shopping bags in) the Dashcam will keep recording as the power is still on. So now every time before coming off the car i swipe down the screen and turn the car off. A bit weird but i am trying to get used to it. To be honest though I would prefer physical ON/OFF button.

Hello Clive, thank you fo your reply. Yes i think it might be the same. Can this feature be turned off? Flashing lights might be misleading for other drivers.
Hi
You where traveling too fast and close to the vehicle and the car had not seen you brake so it did for you to stop you going in to the back of vehicle in front. Do not turn this off will save your insurance, first time you experience this you are uncertain what is happening, I had a few cars pull in front of me over time and this has saved me.
