I maybe a little ‘superficial’ but it was the looks of the IM5 that attracted me in the first place when I saw it first in the motoring press in 2025.
Perhaps it isn’t top of the ‘reason-to-buy’ list for most IM drivers. But it was when my wife came home yesterday to report that a postman had stopped to speak to her to ask ‘What car is that?’
My wife, I hasten to add, drives the car and would be happy if it were an old ICE small car.
I, too, have had many kind comments about a car which no-one seems to recognise . . . yet!
I mentioned previously that I likened the exterior to my Maserati 4200.
Now I have spotted the more obvious likeness – the interior.
The IM5 is a seriously handsome car, and I notice the similarity to other Chinese car brand saloons.
The old feeling about the Chinese manufacturers copying European cars is becoming an obsolete notion as they develop their own design language. So much so that I would encourage the legacy brands in Europe to adopt Chinese styling (thinking particularly of BMW, Audi and VW.)
