Advice Needed Please

Hi,

I'd like some suggestions please.

I'm considering replacing my dad's inherited diesel Golf with a second hand EV.

Main criteria are:

• Spend £15k or less.
• Prefer small cars.
• Range of 150 miles is enough.
• Performance unimportant.
• Want something I can keep for maybe 5 years without major issues, so not an old Leaf/Zoe.

Any recommendations?

I know you say not a Leaf, but my mate has the 2018 model, and it's a very nice car, MG4 size, and 200 mile range with the bigger battery> Autotrader, Nissan Leaf

Leafs suffer from battery degradation as they get older as they lack thermal management of the battery. Zoes suffer from the same and are also prone to motor failures after 50,000 miles or more.

It sounds like you want a 2nd hand MG4 SE to me!

He might be alright, but they don't do well in hot (especially) and cold.

The battery just cooks itself if it is undergoing a lot of activity (fast charging or continuous driving)

If he just drives around locally in UK weather he might be ok.

It sounds like you want a 2nd hand MG4 SE to me!

I wondered how quickly that suggestion would come up! My current preferred buy is an MG4, though probably Trophy as the price difference secondhand is low. But I want to consider non MGs too and having two MG4s on the drive (at least until we replace our current one next year) could make me too much of a fanboy!!

It can be relatively slow, it depends how the car is used. I wouldn't say never, but if there are alternatives that last better...

Very happy with my ID.3 (58kWh) that I believe meets all those requirements. Family (instead of Life) spec gives you really nice matrix lights, which are perfect for us oldies. Realistic range 200 winter / 230+ summer. ID.4 available for less too, but probably too big for you.

Yep, just checked. 140 range. But that's not real life. If it was just purely a town car then perhaps. Just a thought.

I'm also wondering if the MG4 Urban might be in my price range in 6 months time? (ie second-hand ex demo). My guess is not that quickly, but I could see them going for £17-18k with demo mileage.
