Whilst I've had time and wifi etc I've been downloading charging apps. Amazing I'm up to 16 so far!
Can you imagine having 16 apps for petrol stations, plainly this situation makes no sense.
However that's life these days.

Totaly get you. There are some apps that let you pay for other providers, like the Shell Recharge, but the mark up is just too much.

Even the Spark Aliance merging Ionity, Fastned and 2 more companies is just letting you start a Fastned charge using for example the Ionity app. But the Fastned autocharge does not work with the Ionity subscription, etc.

The charging market is weirdly lagging and feels like EV 10 years ago.

It does not help that my city in the Netherlands chooses a new charge point operator every years or so. So for AC charging prices range from 33 euro cents to 89 euro cents plus start fee plus per hour fees from 0 minutes. And on top of that latest example from my street, Shell Recharge is even higher markup, for an AC charger.

There are the attempts to have all new chargers support payment cards, but the companies take advantage of it by allowing you to pay with a credit card the normal price but if you use their app, it is cheaper.

My guess is this is not gonna improve any time soon, so i just made a dedicated folder of apps on my phone.

Curious to see what others feel like.

In the UK now all chargers over 7kw must have contactless payment options, this makes it a lot easier to use chargers but you still have to find one. Chargers local to you are easy ofc and when you travel the satnav will take you to one.

I just have the Electroverse card with a bank card linked to it. It works on most chargers and you don't have to have an Octopus account to get one. If you do get your power from Octopus they will add it to your electricity bill.

Oh that's interesting, I'm with Octopus but I hadn't realised that about adding it to my bill. Thanks.

And 8% discount if you are on Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.

I thought that ZapMap was the one app that ruled them all?

(I mean, don't listen to me as I only ever charge at home, so I have no experience, but that's what I was told...)

+1 for the Electroverse card. It works just about everywhere except Tesla and Gridserve.

Also you get this nice map so you can see where you have been in your EV.

How does the satnav take you to one? Might be me, but searching for chargers over 50kw? (built in filter) along my route gives no results. This so far in Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy and Austria. Did not try the Balkan states for obvious reasons.

So, please teach me, i do mean it, that is maybe the quickest fix.

Edit: Can be a PM to not steal the post.
