Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

We should go on a tour of bonnie Scotland.
The one thing that puts me off is those little annoying bu99ers.

No, not the Krankies! The mozzies...
A mix of Listerine original recipe and water in a spray bottle. Spray around the area you want to sit and they will stay away.

The other one that works, cool white led strips ...... put them away from where you are and warm white ones where you want to sit, the mozzies will go to the cool white led strips .... discovered this one when camping in the Kombi at a caravan park that had a water catch canal dug around it in an attempt to drain the flood water away from the area. Had towels hanging to dry on a rope strung lengthways cutting the awning into two sections ..... the outside had the stove and Waeco esky fridge etc, the Kombi side had the warm white LEDs along the edge of the roof gutter. Returned from the campfire social gathering to the cool white side of the awning underside and towels, covered in mozzies, but none on the warm white side. Took great delight in killing thousands of them with one of those tennis racket looking flying insect zappers, had to turn it off and sweep it clean with the paint brush a few times because it got shorted out or overloaded or something, but ended up with quite a carpet of mozzie bodies to show for my hard work  We used this method of mozzie control for the 4 day Easter event we were attending .... early Easter is still in the hot part of the season over here ......

Do they even mention we have mozzies that will kill you? It's usually all the other things that everyone seems to think are just waiting to kill an unsuspecting tourist .... that that is simply not true, they are waiting to kill anyone they can catch .... it's just tourists are easy ;)

"What do they eat when they can't get tourist?" "The locals."

When I started my last job as a Veterinary Investigation Officer in Edinburgh, management was stressing its brains out over the possibility of West Nile Disease (or was it Bluetongue? possibly both) getting into a' meanbh-chuileagan. The thinking being that we haven't been able to make a dent in them despite our best efforts when the only reason for doing it was that they're a bloody annoying pest. The prospect of them carrying serious disease as well is not a happy one.

Those last four pictures from around Applecross. Smoked haddock in the walled garden, sheep on the foreshore.
Then a walk up into the Archeolink trail overlooking Skye with those Cuillin hills in stark relief and I am stewing nicely here in the only patch with a one bar signal for miles.

@Archev - thanks again for your stunning photos! You certainly live in the most beautiful part of the British Isles. I am really envious
Aye but three scorching days in a row ??
This poor Scot isn’t configured for that kind of consistency 🤩
I’m on my way home to sort out my rubbish bin, air the tent and sleeping bag and seek guidance on the forecast for the next escape 🤣

Not one complaint about my foreshore sheep 🤔
