Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

We should do this!
I’ve emailed them to see how they’d react to a show of EV’s in the first place and enquire if it’s possible this or next year.
It would be £80 for up to 10 vehicles. Not sure if there are any insurance implications or the like but let’s see if there are any others interested first.

A cousin of mine had a Midget when I was a teenager, some time in the 1960s. I remember she got stick from her mother for being selfish for buying a two-seater. Her older brother also had an MG sports car, and I think that's what gave her the idea. I never heard that he got stick for being selfish for buying a two-seater!

What would be totally gorgeous would be to show pairs of MGs, the classic and the EV, in similar colours. I doubt if we'd be able to find vintage MG owners who would co-operate though.

It was something that was running through my mind, in parallel with wondering how good the vintage blue MG would look beside a Holborn Blue MG4. The Caledonian MG club was tempting me with accounts of the meet-ups they run for MG cars, sounds like nice day-in-the-country sort of thing. Taking an EV or two on some of these could dispel a few myths. I doubt if the routes are long enough to worry a modern car. Even if they were, a sneaky charge just before joining the meet and again on the way home would take care of that.

The trouble is that the shows are billed as being for vintage cars, and our cars are certainly not that. I did see an SAIC MG at Thirlstane, the "Yellow Peril" belonging to the woman in charge, but it was ICE. It might need a well-disposed owner of a vintage MG to agree to have a modern MG EV shown beside it for comparison, but I don't know how one would arrange that.

It's true that a few EVs actually on display, rather than hidden away in the car park, with the owners standing ready to sing their praises, might change a few minds. We could have a picnic table with kettle, toaster and so on connected to the VtL.

Given MG's sports car antecedents the marque would fit well with this sort of initiative. Better than VW or Ford or whoever. (I suppose Porsche, Mercedes and Jaguar could all play the same game.) But BYD and other brand new marques wouldn't be able to do it.
The back of the BVAC program dispels most of those worries about who can exhibit:-

OK so we are now set in motion for a club display at next year’s Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle near Brechin. I’ve provisionally booked a place for us under the working title of the Electric Vehicle Club. (catchy eh? - but what would you call it ??)
We need to be members I think - currently £15 and Lesley at Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club says liability insurance is required.
A vehicle entry for showing a vehicle is £6 for members which includes a family of four ( 2 adults + 2 under16s)
I’m not sure about the insurance or the costs but I’ll look into that - unless we have an expert on the Forum here ???

So I’m in and I think Rolfe is interested but what about the rest ?

I’ll be going at least one of the days this year (12th and 13th July 2025) when there is absolutely guaranteed to be weather. It has always been a very good show but with 1700+ displays this year should be fantastic.

Did they say what specific type of liability insurance is required? (I'd guess Public Liability insurance, so if anyone had an accident/got injured at the stand then the insurance would cover against any claim. But there are other types of liability insurance, so it's important to get it right).

Thanks for provisionally sorting this out.
Sounds like it could be good.
Think MG EV ⚡⚡Club or Community. Would be a better name. But that's only my opinion. And you did ask. 😉🙂👍

Aye it’s early days and I don’t really know but I’m guessing what you describe about public liability sounds correct. I’ll check with them in due course but thanks meantime. Ill check in for advice as and when.

Sounds good to me and no doubt if we can get off the ground any name is good. I just needed something to work with to set the ball rolling. But thanks meantime- if you’re joining we can mark that down 🤩 longest range yet 🤣
