Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

Quite a machine let alone being a beautiful musical instrument.

Thought I had a problem tonight when setting off to come home 🙄. Berlingo refused to have anything to do with me - flat out ignored me !
Then after turning the key on and off a couple of times a bright red spanner showed up in the corner of the screen. Then a message on the centre screen said the car was updating and was at 25%complete. Faffing about and contemplating breaking out the jump start battery I then noticed the update was at 50%. Finally after being “dead” the update reached 100% and slowly all the screen icons and maps and things populated the screens and all was back to normal. I switched everything off and it all started back to normal. I drove home with everything seemingly back to normal and I was unable to work out if anything has changed.
I’ve plugged in and will shortly ask for an 80% charge by morning and see if anything has obviously changed.

Our MG4 occasionally has a hissy fit (not to do with updating, though) and refuses to move. A couple of bum lifts and door lockings usually sorts it out. Never worked out why it went weird, though.

I suspect the intermittent seat belt interlock for our hissy feet last week. Could that be your problem?

Possibly, but I think on at least one occasion, the seat belt wasn't unclipped, so that didn't come into the equation.

The vagaries of a modern car!

Does anyone know if any other car with OTA update capability is “bricked” during those update procedures ?
I assume they will but would have expected to be asked if it was convenient to go ahead or hold off until later. I’ve noticed other updates have been done after overnight charge sessions which is when you’d kind of expect it. On a couple of occasions I have noticed a momentary screen report about “system update” or something along those lines.

I thought at first it had seen you sneaking off with another vehicle (the bus).
Aye Granddaughter and I were away by bus all day so Berlingo sat for about 12/13 hours whilst we were at Kelvingrove and then having a meal with her other Grandparents before she returns to the USof T tomorrow.
After 5 to 10 minutes the car woke up and started and drove completely normally during the hour long drive home. I asked Ohme to add 20% to the battery overnight so the Citroen is now sitting with 85% which is162 miles in Normal mode.

Well we tried to sneak off unnoticed but the bus arrived two minutes early whilst we were looking the other way. The driver just carried on up the road despite us waving and busticulating to the best of our ability.
I phoned and had a moan to his office - the girl phoned the driver who said we were uncommunicative 🙄. The following bus was OK and still caught an onward connection at the bus station so we were well in time for the organ recital we wanted to see.

I read on the Internet (so it must be true) about a family who were about to drive off to the airport on holiday early one morning only to find his Tesla has started a OTA update at 3am and put it out of action... conveniently blocking their 2nd car in the driveway in the process.

Served him right for buying something from Elon, though ;)

Like you say, take what you read on the internet with a very large pinch of salt.
S'pose that is feasible, though. Still not big deal, newsworthy though. Presuming you couldn't push it out of the way, to get the other car out. Phone a Taxi, phone family, if they are relatively close to you.
Or even ask a neighbour. Don't get me wrong it's, bloody inconvenient. But hardly earth shattering. 🙄🙂👍

Yeah thanks I suspected that would be the case I just hadn’t encountered anything nor heard any such stories. If the situation had persisted I might have gone back to the house and had Granddaughter investigate. She’s only 14 but has a super grasp of technology and a very analytical mind. It would have been interesting seeing her approach to the problem.

My usual approach to something that has a CPU and an operational issue that I can't fix is a very strong desire to destroy it! None more so that a printer!

I know that's bad, but I feel very strongly that humans should retain the upper hand where inanimate objects are concerned.

Luckily, that hasn't happened yet WRT "His Lordship" (our sarcastic name for our car).
