Hi everyone,

I am in the market for some new tyres, after my Nankangs on the front lasted eight months and 15k (Correctly inflated and "tracked" as well)

I have noticed that a local tyre place are listing Pirelli tyres in my size for only £75 each! (When I put my reg in) The only problem is that they are only 92 load index and not "XL"

is this a problem? It would be nice to have some premium tyres for once! Many thanks in advance :)

A 92 rated tyre can carry just short of 1400lbs so call it 5500lbs or 2500 kilos for the car.

the MG5 pre FL manual specifies 96 rated, 1565lbs loads per wheel.

No need for XL.

That's an empty car, though. What about passengers and luggage or whatever your carrying. I'd definitely go for an XL tyre (extra load) to be on the safe side.
And if it specifies a 96 rated tyre, then go for that. 🙂👍

Does that take into effect heavy braking forces when a lot of the the weight of the car is thrown forwards onto the front two wheels ? and rolling movements side to side when aggressive cornering? There might also be insurance issues should you need to claim and maybe a future MOT issue?

my facelift 74 plate as got 215/50 R17 91V it also states that size on the door pillar the plating on the vehicle is 2028 KG Gross then towing 2528 KG with wheel 1 at 1100 KG wheel 2 1050 KG

92 load index tyres may fit, but MG EVs are quite heavy because of the battery, so XL tyres with a higher load rating are usually recommended.
Although not fitted on mine when new.

well, the cars come with 91 rated tyres on so it would be odd if there was an insurance problem.
