It's not the rain, it's the weedy flap, I live coastal area the wind howls regularly, one day the flap will bend over, time for a removable flap (push springs affair to release the hinge) or proper catch were you can hold the cap to a fixing point inside the flap port.
Tying it to the charging gun would put pressure on the pins in the port.

Surely must be lots of flaps bent /broken in windy car park etc areas?

To be fair, it would have to be one hell of a wind to snap, the flap off. Never heard of it happening.
Not impossible of course, but not likely.

Think even Melissa would struggle to snap the flap off, might take the whole car, but not the flap.

Its comforting that its not really needed to shield against the rain. One of the other I hold back is how it might introduce micro scratches on the contact point with the magnets
