Winter coming 12V battery

Thank you for your reply. I was just filling my washer bottle and a neighbour commented on my new car. I mentioned a jump starter pack and he said he has one I can have as his motoring days are over. Said he had used it once on a neighbours car.

Jump starter received from my neighbour OASSER J5 Capacity 15000mAh Start current 300A Peak current1000A. Has any member used such a starter on an MG 12v battery?

It’s pretty straight forward to use, just connect the crocodile clamps onto the battery terminals of your depleted battery.
( Red to the positive and Black to the negative ).
Ensure they have a good contact by giving them a wiggle.
You MAY see a small spark as you connect the leads, but this is totally normal.
The unit if fitted with a device that SHOULD you connect the clamps onto the battery the wrong way, it will flag up a light on the black section of the booster.
So, basically you can’t get it wrong or cause any damage to the booster or the car.
Now, turn on the red power button on the booster, sometimes when you turn on the unit, it MAY trigger the alarm to sound, if it does, just use the key fob to open the car.
Now, on the black box section of the unit, you will see a small “boost” button.
When you are ready, press this button and then enter the car and start it in the normal fashion.
The “boost” feature will time out if you take too long to enter the car and start it, so it’s “Quick Sticks” and shuffle your peach 👣.
If it does time out, don’t worry, just return to the unit and depress the black button once again.
When the car is up and running, return to the booster and disconnect both crocodile clamps.
Now firmly apply your best smug grin 😀 and receive a pat on the back 👍🤣.
Keep the unit in a place where you can easily access it from the drivers door.
This because this will be your ONLY point of entry if your battery is completely depleted, as the key fob will not be able to open the car via central locking system, due to the flat battery.
To enter the car in this situation, you will need to be carrying the emergency key 🔑 blade with you.
On the ZS EV it’s inside both of the key fobs, but on the new S5 it’s a separate item.
To gain entry to the car to access your booster, you need to locate a small oblong slot that is provided on the underside of the fixed section, of the small body coloured position of the drivers door handle.
Once located, insert the emergency blade into the slot and lever the blade back towards you, this will prize off the coloured cap and expose the locking barrel of the door.
Insert your blade into the barrel and turn it to manually release the door lock and open the car.
This is possible because the drivers door lock has a manual override feature that still allows you entry even when the battery is completely flat.
You will NOT have entry via the other doors or boot until power is restored to the car, that is why you need your booster to be accessible from the drivers door in an emergency.
Keep the coloured lock cover safe until the are happy that all is back to normal, then it will just simply clip back in place.
New cars are delivered with out the cover fitted, for this very reason to gain entry if the battery 🪫 is flat.
This may sound a bit daunting, but trust me it’s not really.
You now have all the info you will require, hope this helps.

Thanks for your very comprehensive explanation of using the jump starter. I am happy that should the need arise that I have the necessary information and confidence to procced to jump start the vehicle. Thanks again, appreciated.
