Autohaus Weller GmbH & Co. KG - MG Dealer Discussion, Opinions & Experiences

I had the 3rd inspection for my MG4 at Autohaus Weller in Bielefeld. The invoice included 'software updates per manufacturer guidelines,' but they dropped the ball. They only updated the infotainment via USB (the advisor actually forgot the USB stick in my car!), but ignored everything else, like the LKA/TJA updates. They charged 260 Euros plus VAT for this. Definitely not recommended.

Of course, I spoke with the dealership and their service department. I even mentioned the internal service bulletin SC077, which specifically concerns the LKA (Lane Keep Assist), among other things. I was dismissed—they claimed they weren't aware of this bulletin and then got snappy with me, asking how I, as a customer, even had access to that kind of information.
At that point, I got a bit short with them as well, especially after mentioning that I was charged for 'installing software updates' when, in reality, nothing was updated except for the infotainment system. They told me that they are allowed to charge just for checking the manufacturer's database for available updates. According to them, if the manufacturer hasn't released any updates for my specific VIN, then that’s just how it is.
I pointed out that this isn't true, as I had personally read out the software versions via the OBD port using VDI3 and SIPS, which proved there are definitely updates available for my car. By the end of the conversation, they simply ignored that argument entirely.

I think I would make a complaint to the dealer principal. Can you complain to the HQ in Amsterdam if this fails?

Which?, a consumer association here in the UK, found issues with LKA when testing the MG4 and contacted MG UK, who told them a software update would be forthcoming.

I had this update carried out at my second service in August 2025. Since then, the LKA has been behaving much better and very rarely activates the steering wheel. It still beeps, though, but you can't have everything!

Maybe you could also get in touch with the Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband, which is the German equivalent of Which? and they could give you some advice?

First, I’m going to contact MG Motor Germany. I want to wait and see how they react. If that doesn't lead anywhere, my next step will be to reach out to MG Motor Europe (they are based in the Netherlands, right?). If I still don’t get a satisfactory result, I might end up taking this to a lawyer to get a refund.

When it comes to updates, I'm definitely not relying on my MG agent anymore. I’m going to handle them myself, or rather, with some technical help from my family. My aunt’s partner works for Maxus in the commercial vehicle department, and he’ll be able to borrow the necessary diagnostic adapter for private use during the workshop's next holiday break.
