I am planning to drive the family from Nottingham to Holyhead to Dublin to Larne (NI) to Cairnryan (Scotland) and home again, in our ZS mark 1. We will be staying in various places along the way over about 2 weeks. Does anyone have any tips: Is it necessary to get RFID cards or Apps? Which ones? What is it like charging in RoI and NI? Any tips about booking the ferries? Any frustrations from similar trips? Any does and don'ts?

Make sure you get a ChargePlace Scotland RFID card (order via their website). CPS operate the majority of chargers north of the border and a card gets round potential mobile phone connectivity problems.

Also, put some time aside for seeing S W Scotland - it's a fine part of the world...

Zap Map beforehand to plan your route & sign up beforehand for any networks you plan to use.

Have a plan A, B & (perhaps) C for charge stops & check live availability using ZapMap a couple of minutes before you reach a charge point

I live in Dublin. With a bit of planning, Dublin to the Northern Ireland border is ok but plan with the apps. There are 2 x 50kWh chargers in Dublin port, for example.

However, the general consensus over here would be NOT to enter Northern Ireland without a full charge - the charging situation is pretty dire. Things are improving quickly so closer to your travel date, ask again about Northern Ireland on (external website) Electric Vehicles & Hybrids

Good luck!
