Boot not staying open

Hi all. Have a 71 reg short range. Randomly the boot no longer opens normally. It feels heavy and won't stay up by itself. Due its first service shortly (£166 quote seems a lot 13k miles though) so will ask the dealer to have a look. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks

Sounds like one of the gas struts has failed.
Simple warranty job to fix but it may take a while to get the parts.

Thanks Alb. My son thought hydraulics related. Long wait for parts doesn't sound great but not much we can do about that.

Agree, gas strut(s) needs replacing.
Simple to install is a bonus !.
No hydraulics - gas filled struts.

On a side note I paid just under £100 for my first service, with the mileage bring just under 15,000.

Thanks Dave. Will probably wind up going with it for convenience as only 5 minutes down the road.

That does seem high for a 13k service, it should only be around £100. Phone another dealer for a price then you can go back to your dealer with a different number.

If the dealer doesn't have the strut you could probably find one in the UK. The info on gas pressure, length etc is printed on the side of the strut and it probably a standard size.

Maybe try this place. They even offer a strut that will raise the boot when unlocked.
