Hi, everyone,

Minor problem....

My boot isn't shutting properly on my Trophy S5EV

Press the button to close boot....
Tailgate goes down....
Catches the latch, but the mechanism doesn't pull the boot in that last 10cm.

The boot open warning light is displayed in the dash.

The boot latch is engaged, but the boot moves up and down. I have to push the boot down to engage it fully.

On opening, boot only goes up 3/4 distance. I reset it, but it doesn't remember it after it fails to close fully.

I have the car booked in to the service department, but wondered if anyone encountered this problem and has a fix?

Cheers!!

Thanks for the reply.

I have done this several times.

After the beeb, the boot fails to close properly, and then when I open it again, it doesn't fully open despite my previous reset actions.

I had this problem with our S5, but cured it by applying a smear of silicone grease to the two round and the two square boot lid alignment/stops, as the friction when dry was causing the problem. The round ones are adjustable with a screwdriver if your boot lid does not close in line with the rear wing.

First up, apologies to the mods for posting this problem....I did do a search on the MG5EV thread, but it yielded no hits, so thought I was posting a less common problem!

So far, no joy fixing it here. Haven't tried the silicone trick yet....what product should I use? Forgive the noob question, but I'm a humble musician....

Here's a short video of my experience....

You can get silicone grease from Screwfix, Toolstation or a plumbers merchant, by the way, no video.

There is a difference between the MG5 and the MGS5. The MG5 is an estate car that has now been discontinued. The MGS5 is an SUV and the Trophy model does have a powered tailgate.

Try a bit of washing up liquid on the alignment rubbers and try the tailgate before it dries. If it works wipe it off and get some silicone grease but as you have already got the car booked into the dealers it might be better to let them look at it.

Thanks again all for your suggestions - tried the washing up liquid to no avail. Can't help thinking that the boot is a little proud left side - the boot is almost thrown back rather than being pulled in the last few cms.
The dealership were pretty responsive, given all the negativity about customer service bits. They're also going to check why I can't get my battery fully charged to 100% - always stops at 98% or 99%!! May be a software update for this.....
