The system is set to brake when near to another car and I'm not pressing the brake. My MG5 was quite good at this, but I haven't had a single warning yet from the MGS5 - despite trying to provoke it. Is there aomthing that I'm missing?

I feel the same way, having gone from an MG5 to an MGS5.

In the MG5, the collision warning was always on and would alert whether I was using Cruise Control or not.

My MGS5 will react to other cars and slow down when the Cruise Control is active, but in normal driving mode, it doesn't seem to do anything and I haven't been brave enough to test it yet!

Are you talking about Forward Collision Assist?
Yes

Same here - I have tried getting closer to a car in front - same as in the MG5 - but nothing alerted/triggered. Like you, I'm wary of 'testing' it too well ;-)

The MG5 is certainly a lot more aggressive in it's reactions to vehicles in front. I've only had my S5 for a day and I've noticed this same thing.
Even cruise control is a lot gentler braking when coming up to stalled traffic I found myself heading for the brake pedal a couple of times but then not needing to press it.

Yes, but I found the MG5 response about right, so I'm not sure how much to trust the MGS5 at the moment

Have you tried the Comfort Braking switch to see if that makes a difference to the gentle braking?

My problem with cruise control is the violent overreaction to parked cars.

My Audi, which was a relative early adopter of ACC, was absolutely fine on roads with parked vehicles, the S5 is unusable under those circumstances.

Not experienced that yet but the day is young as they say :)
