Can’t connect to ISmart app

Hi, we have just bought a 2024 plate MG HS Hybrid plug in, trophy model. We were under the impression when buying that we would be able to charge the car during our off peak hours and being able to plug the charger in before we go to bed and schedule it to start charging at a certain time when off peak hours kick in (12am). I cannot find anywhere on the car that we can set this, and have downloaded the MG ISmart app but unable to ‘bind’ it to the car as there is no ‘settings’ widget on our display screen, just a setup widget and no QR code in sight.

Hi @carp2212, welcome to the forum, I'm not familiar with the HS Hybrid, but there should be some way to schedule charging from the main screen.

The I-Smart may need to be unbound from a previous phone before you can bind it to yours.

Thanks for your reply. Have searched and searched for a way to schedule the charging from the main screen but no luck, looks like a phone call to the dealership tomorrow! Thanks again

Hi Satish, apparently our model does not support the I Smart app which is very disappointing considering it is top spec supposedly. We are having to change our charger to one with an app so that we can do schedule charging that way. Garage are giving us a £500 ‘goodwill’ payment towards the charger as we were told it did support it on purchase!

Thanks @carp2212 for the quick response. I have asked my dealer on this too. Lets see what they come back with. I agree that its very disappointing considering the highest spec - Trophy. I guess I will now be compelled to buy a charger in which I can schedule charging. I am hoping if they release an updated Software Pack assuming that our model has all the telematics built in for us to then connect the App

No problem. Yes fingers crossed! My husband has come across a device called Shelly 1 which can be installed to our old Rolec charger and has its own app within that to enable us to schedule charging. They are only around £16/17 on Amazon so I think we are going to try that before buying a new charger. There is some YouTube videos of them being fitted and a couple of threads on here about them. Might be worth a look depending what charger you have.

I've seen a few comments on posts which have suggested using a Shelly 1 Switch to upgrade a dumb charger to allow timed charging. Well now I've done it and I can confirm:

1. It works
2. It's relatively easy to install (I’m no genius and I did it)
3. Cost me under £20 and saved £800 on purchasing a new smart charger

If you have a dumb charger it's well worth considering.

PS - the Shelly switch doesn’t take the 7kw load of the charger it is only controlling the low voltage switch inside the charger.

Thanks @carp2212 ...I don't have a EV charger at the moment. I do have an outdoor 3 pin plug and socket. Thanks for Shelly 1 as I also came across that in Amazon...I guess, I can get Shelly 1 attached to the 3 pin plug and then I can control the on and off times to get the car charged. That would be a much cost efficient solution that an EV charger
