I am with Direct Line for my 23 plate SE £454. As I have been using subscription services for 3 years previously my NCB had reverted to zero so I was quite pleased with my quote.?

I have just changed from Admiral to One Call via the Meerkats site and saved £200 by buying it the same day. I did it the same day I had my renewal, (20 days in advance), which is the Goldilocks time & when I went direct it was a lot higher. Do your research in advance and then check again and be ready to buy. Admiral couldn't even get close when I called them. Hope this helps - just don't leave it until the last minute.

I use A Plan in Thatcham, but have multiple vehicles with them. This year the MG went down £20, as its value has dropped down being a year old. If you have more than one vehicle, it's often cheaper to speak to a broker who can get you deals based on what you have as a total. Currently my MG (15k miles commute car) is on a '2nd vehicle' policy linked to my Mustang policy.

Do they exist? I've not heard of them...

When I passed the Institute of Advanced Motorists test it came with the promise of a cheap insurance but it was (afaik) just the one broker who, even after discount, was considerably more expensive than my usual insurer at the time.

I'm not sure you'll do much better than the Meerkat or one of those sites, without a lot of hard legwork.

42, clean licence, full no claims, live rural-ish, 18k miles, £430. But as I said this takes into account other policies and everyone's experience will vary.

The insurance industry is still very wary of EV, particularly high costs to repair and parts availability.

Im yet to find a company that specialises in EV, or one that offers EV for their guaranteed hire vehicle. It's all class A vehicles.

My underwriter does have a Dashcam policy though, if you have one installed and it proves non-fault, then there's no excess to pay.

The best insurance deals are dependent on many factors mostly related to that individual and vehicle and will be of no value comparing to yours.
Just use all the comparison sites as usual.

Premiums are constantly changing. One insurer might be competitive this week but not next. Plus, as quite rightly has been said, each premium is based on your profile. Use the comparison sites. Also, if you’re unhappy with your current providers quote - speak to them - they may just match or beat a cheaper deal.

I just checked and for the same info details, moneysupermarket gives me a quote for a MG5 for £350.
The same details on confused.com throws up £420 for the same insurer(Darwin)

I have often tried different job titles and found I get different quotes with each one even with the same company. For example I try semi retired, housewife/husband and carer, all titles legally pertinent to my circumstances and I’ve had a difference of £40 on a quote from the same company. So I just pick the best one. Regarding a specialist policy for an EV I’ve not come across one but would be interested to hear.

I just set up insurance for a 23 plated MG ZS EV Trophy Connect Long Range. I looked online at all the comparison sites to get some idea and a few emailed quotes. I then visited my local broker who has a good reputation. However, they quoted £785 for comprehensive insurance with a voluntary excess of £150.

Needless to say I declined, came home got back onto the comparison websites and firmed up a deal with MoneySupermarket with FLOW, £458. Thats with courtesy car, same excess, legal protection, and no-claims-bonus-protection.

Thats only about £80 more expensive than my previouse 8 year old SKODA so I'm very pleased.

It’s just a case of trying the comparison sites. Some insurers don’t risk older drivers so much.

We have a dual car policy with Admiral. The MG5 costs £280pa. This surprised me as I'd heard that EVs were expensive to insure and had just had a quote from the RAC for about £800.

Best time to get the cheapest prices on the comparison sites is 23 days before renewal due. I used that this year and saved over the earlier quotes I had.

Have you checked Aviva? I'm a little younger than you, 72 this year, but fully comp, Aviva Premium policy, same car as you, I think, (pre-facelift), zero excess, £330 for the year.

Also, I would agree with what @Gomev has posted. I think you may be asking for quotes rather too early if your current policy doesn't expire until May 25th. Wait until at least the beginning of next month!

After most of the day scouring sites and taking phone calls, the best quote I could get was Admiral for £966.63. No one else under £1000. They could not quote me more than 10 days ahead rather than the 23 days requested. I almost got a better deal from them by adding my house insurance, car quote was £782, but it required me to insure from 10/5 and my current insurance runs until the end of August. Joint car/house would have been just over £1000. So much for cheaper running costs for EVs!

Mine isn't due till the summer but at the moment it looks like about 10 - 15% above last year on the comparison sites. (That's about #250 for me, but what I was checking for was whether there had been a major hike in premiums).

This isn't unusual for me but I've often managed to get the renewal with my existing provider down to somewhere not much above the previous years price.
