CarPlay and phone not working together

I have been using CarPlay on the MGS5 but when I try to connect my phone it seems there's a conflict between the two. I can either have CarPlay but not the phone, or disable CarPlay and the phone and contacts work fine.

Others see this, please?
Any sequence that works?

Copilot suggested use wired connection for CarPlay then wireless or the phone. Seems a bit of a shortcoming if you have to do that.

CarPlay provides voice/messaging so no need to use bluetooth connection in the car as well.

CarPlay worked fine on an overnight call out. I'd not used it before as previous cars didn't have the option.

Great, it works pretty well although my software version, R22, has an annoying bug at startup with multiple pop ups saying can’t connect then usually does. Hoping dealer can get upgrade done this week after aborted attempt last week.

I just now drop my iPhone on the induction charge area, then phone connect via Apple Car Play and I use one of several navigation apps, usually Google Maps and have not had any connection/reset issues. It just seems to work. Occasionally Google announces I’m reconnected where I’ve been out of cover but that’s the mobile network, not the in car connectivity and functionality. I feel lucky I have, so far, had no problems with any of the car systems since my original query about using BT and swapping to just use Car Play.

I have had this problem and seem to have found a solution, though I haven't exactly tied down what the solution is.

I have found that if CarPlay is connected, I sometimes can't hear any sound, including the radio. But if I flick away all the apps running on the iPhone, it just starts to work again.

I'm not completely sure which app is causing the interference, but my best guess would be either YouTube or BBC Sounds, though it could possibly be Netflix or Times Radio.

The trouble is it doesn't happen often enough to do proper diagnostics.
