UK Government officials and military personnel have been instructed to keep Chinese EVs away from military sites. Staff were also advised to avoid having official conversations within electric cars from China over security concerns that Beijing could be using its vehicle exports to spy on the UK.

Sources have told the ‘i’ newspaper that personnel working at Cambridgeshire's RAF Wyton – the UK’s top defence intelligence base – have been instructed to park “at least two miles away” if they are driving a vehicle housing Chinese components. This has been implemented as a result of fears the sat-nav and sensors in the cars could be gathering information about the surroundings and even tracking people’s movements.

It is law that all Chinese companies have to share all the data the collect on their servers with the Chinese government, even servers abroad apparently.

The world's gone mad 🎅
Totally agree but there is obviously issues with the cars, won't stop people buying them though.

I know a guy who is a software engineer at defence contractor, they were given a list of manufacturers that if you bought a car, you were told not to link your phones to them.

No call for a boycott or cars being damaged though🤔

This was 'news' in April earlier this year but this article in Forces News from last month suggests that it is not quite as dramatic or click baity as the original article would have us believe...and it doesn't just apply to EVs (more FUDDism).

I would imagine they would all be the same, and most of these places are phone and tablet free.

I went to a defence contractor with work and before I got in I had to lock my phone, watch, etc in a cabinet before I could go in.
The were all built like Faraday boxes.

There is a reason they are a threat to national security and the experts that provided that information to the government certainly know more than us.

I know it's not just EVs and not just Chinese cars it's Chinese's components.
Absolutely nothing to do with anti EV

I know you do, however the titles in the newspaper articles are click baity only specifying EVs and even the first paragraph of your original post specifically states EVs twice and not all cars.

Cambridgeshire's RAF Wyton, eh! never knew that, thanks for the information. For some reason the MG4 has just woken up, unexpectedly. ?? Its now searching Sat Nav , do you have the Lat/longitude co-ordinates its requesting. Loose lips sink ships and all that!!! :p

It says Chinese cars coz, they've got Chinese components. ((Obviously) But I would imagine pretty much all cars, ICE, Hybrid have got Chinese components. So why not ban, them all. They could all cycle to work then. (Not E-Bikes though) 🙄🤪
Personally think it's a load of Nonsense.
🙂👍

It's to do with servers where the info is sent

I remember watching a video of the us senators grilling the ceo of tiktok.
1 question was, does tiktok use the device to find other devices and info on the network and nearby.

His answer was, we do the same as facebook and Instagram.

Difference is one country has been deemed a threat to national security and the other is 🤔

And the other is .... currently hijacking oil tankers because they can't drill heavy crude themselves.
I'm not defending either, there aren't any sides here, it's more the people that have lined up to bash Tesla whilst turning a blind eye to everything China is up to
