My wife accidentally scraped the nearside front panel of her ZS Excite whilst reversing out of the garage, I took the car down to our local car bodyshop to get the panel resprayed (the damage wasn't too bad just a few scuff marks on dynamic red paintwork). The owner of the shop tried different paint manufacturers to get the exact match to the existing paintwork of the car to no avail, because dynamic red is made up of three parts: base coat, top coat and finished off with the clear lacquer, and adding to that MG will not supply the paint manufacturers the formula to make up the paint. The painter did a great job of buffing out most of the scuffs and finishing of with a clear coat of lacquer.

I loved the look of the red, but the extra cost and the possible difficulty of paint matching definitely put me off. I chose silver - a bit boring, but it doesn’t show the dirt much.

Older thread I know but in the hope this helps others...I had my bonnet & roof resprayed under warranty. Mine is Tri-coat Dynamic Red also. There was no issue getting the correct paint here in the UK. In fact any body shop can match the paint perfectly where ever they get the paint from. They just need the paint code (on a sticker on the driver's door frame) or they can scan the car using a laser scanner which tells them what they need to know. I would suggest the body shop was telling little porkies!
