Curious about turn-off noises

A quick question purely out of curiosity .

When I pick up my grandkids from school, I park-up and sometimes turn the car OFF from the pulldown menu. After a few minutes there's a series of chunks, clicks, and whirring sounds from under the bonnet, and sounds of fluids being purged. This can go on for half a minute or so, with occasional follow-up clunks.
I assume this has something to do with shutting down the air conditioning, but out of curiosity does anyone know exactly what goes on during the turn-off process?
 
The only noises I hear when I turn off our ZS EV is the parking brake engaging. I can hear the motors on the brakes engaging . That is about it.
We don't use air conditioning so have no experience of the noises it makes.

This reminds me of something - i do realise, in OPD, once you come to a complete stop and give it another minute, you will feel something engaging/disengaging.
 
The something engaging/disengaging sounds like you have hill hold turned on. You can tell by the feeling, it takes a little longer to start once you try to take off. There is a pause as the brakes disengage and then the car moves forward.
I don't know about your model but the ZS has a button next to the parking brake button that turns hill hold on and off.

Hmmm. I dont recall having hill assist/hold on but i will check. i have autohold on though.
 
I use OPD all the time and I think HOLD is On by default so I'll turn them off to see if things change .
I disabled Auto-Hold. Pete is right... that "parking disengage" feel when u move off is no longer there. And OPD still slows down to a stop when the accelerator pedal is released, after which the "A" icon for autohold appear. So not much difference as to how its been behaving, except the extra "inertia" when moving off. Drive feels so much more responsive damn, i feel borderline disappointed with myself.

Honestly feels like +5hp

Does make me question though why is the AutoHold button there still for OPD.

I did the same this morning, and I agree. Take off is noticeably improved and OPD appears to be unaffected.

It can also be cooling of the motor/drive system, which can be needed after the journey ends, and/or the battery temperature.

Think of it like the fan on ICE cars running after you park.
I turned off the a/c, heating and Hold this morning and when I got home there were still half dozen clunks after about a minute or so. But a lot fewer than previously noted, and over a shorter time span and with no fluid purging sounds. So I guess that the a/c makes the major difference.

Your analogy to a fan running on an ICE car is a good one. But as a life long engineer, many years retired, I've never lost my inquisitive mentality. 👍
