I've just been through the 'Electrical diagrams EU.pdf' document and there is reference to a 'Driving Video Recorder” / “Driving Vedio Recorder' device that's an optional extra for the car.

It appears to be connected into the body harness somewhere and talks to the BCM to wake up and record. Its all fused in so appears to be something they designed to be fitted rather than a 3rd party.

Has anyone seen more info about this? It's listed in the EU document but not the non-EU one so this doesn't appear to be a Chinese-only option.

Going through the manuals a bit more, it looks like its an option that gets fitted into the windscreen camera location and is wired down to the drivers footwell.

I can't understand why they'd need to use two cameras though, perhaps a low resolution one for ADAS and a high resolution one for the dashcam?

More sluthing - a previous forum member also mentioned that the Cyberster has a built in video recorder that he was able to pull the videos off of.

Aha!

The Service Manual has an entire section about it:

Yes, the service manual has info about it, they even mention an SD card somewhere.

I was going to look into it when disassembling the mirror support, but I doubt It's present in our EU/UK models, and even it it's present we would need the correct software to operate it so I would consider it dead weight.

Bit more investigation and it appears as though we'd know if it was fitted, it hangs just behind the rear view mirror and is large enough that you can insert the SD card you mentioned.

What I'm next wondering is if the power lines are present and active still as it would make it a lot easier to tap into for an aftermarket camera than running a lot of additional cables.

I might drop an email to MG to see if this is something that can be bought as it would be nice to have a factory option.

I doubt, they really installed it anywhere. Also, 720p was mentioned, which is unusable for license plate recognition.

I installed a 4K Blackvue dashcam with HDR into my Cyberster, which is powered from interior lighting. Fortunately, my dashcam is powered by 12V, but there's enough room for a 12V to 5V converter. Here's my description (German only). There's a thread on this forum about it, which I took as inspiration.
