I select Radio 4 on DAB and then randomly the radio decides to flip to FM. I reset it to DAB and it works fine for a short while and then flips to FM again. Never had this happen on any car I have owned before. Is it my car or does it happen to other people? I can’t find any way to make DAB the default setting.

I have that exactly DAB, then switches to FM but playing the same station, I thought it may be a signal problem on DAB so switches . Dose yours stay on the same radio station?

If the radio is the same or similar to the unit in the MG4 I found it the most unreliable radio I have ever experienced (I can remember valves and they worked). It would not start, or start and then stop on DAB more often than work. Maybe they have enhanced it on the MGS5 to switch to FM when DAB cuts out?

The DAB signal is so poor on mine I just use FM now. Far more reliable. Might be something to do with the aerial being incorporated into the heated rear window element. Never had it on cars with a proper aerial.

Mine keeps the same station so it is probably if the DAB signal is weaker than FM it defaults to the strongest one.

DAB technically should be able to deliver a better signal than FM and carry more info, but in my experience FM in the real world is still better.

The radio on my partner's MGS5 defaults to FM every time and it is very annoying. Came here to see if there was a solution, but guessing it's an MG thing.

Not sure if you have a phone that has unlimited data - well I do - so I use the Google Play app called 'Radio' - then I can listen to any radio station - currently I'm listening to Norwegian stations - it works fine except if I'm out of data coverage on the mobile.

Got a 5s last week and was listening to 6 music which is only on dab. The FM bit of the tuner was tuned to Radio 4. Despite me listening to 6 music the notifications on the big screen and the small screen kept saying I was listening to radio 4 (but 6music kept playing). If I used the button on the steering wheel to move up a station it always did it from Radio4 in fm and when I pressed the audio button on the big screen it always brought up the fm screen and not the dab one which was actually playing. So the tuner wasn’t switching to playing FM but the display was suggesting it was.

Guys the MGS5 forum is over that way > The media unit is very different to the MG5s one.
