Hello everyone,

It seems MG is forcing those systems even in countries where the law doesn't. As you know ELK can be dangerous in some situations, particularly in countries where the infrastructure is still developing. Other features are just annoying.

The question a bit technical but maybe someone here did it on other cars :

can a mechanic disable the automatic reactivation of those systems using a diagnostic tool? or maybe map one of the favourite buttons to disable them? I hope it's possible unless they programmed them in some hardware layer.

Thank you

I would assume that for legal reasons it is baked so deep in the car's basic firmware, that disabling it is basically impossible for anyone but MG themselves. I guess otherwise there would be companies offering that (legality has never stopped offering certain stuff on cars), as I can imagine quite a few people would willingly take the not so legal approach to have certain ADAS constantly off.

Btw., ELK can be disabled from the start screen when swiping form top, I wish SAIC/MG would add the traffic sign beep as well in the quick menu like they do in newer models;

On most newer cars you usually can’t permanently disable ADAS features like ELK because they’re designed to switch back on every restart, and dealers normally won’t change that. A good independent MG specialist with proper diagnostic software might be able to reduce sensitivity or change some default behaviour but fully removing it normally needs ECU coding which can cause warranty and update issues.

Even in the swipe screen, it asks a message "are you sure you want to disable elk?"(don't know if it's the same for you). People get in/out of your car multiple times a day.,there will be times where they forget and disabling while driving takes multiple steps(slide /click/confirm) and is very distracting . Repeating this multiple times a day sucks. That's a real user experience issue. The other one is switching between limiter /cruise control, this also should be done with a steering wheel button because navigating the screen while driving can caus eyou an accident

Having the fav button memorise adas settings can be a good compromise in case they programmed it deep in the hardware. I guess even if MG doesn't offer this it can be programmed elsewhere since it's a software thing..just the like the button can change regeneration setting., it can change adas setting.
