Does anyone know how the MGS6 boot/tailgate kick motion actually works?

If anyone knows the correct way to do it i'd appreciate some schooling - The Irish Jig I've been doing doesn't seem to work!

It's activated in the settings, and I got it to work once today with a swipe of my foot from side to side, but I can't do it again.

Stand on the right hand side of the boot, turn 45 degrees to your left and then just kick your foot quickly under the tailgate and pull it back

That's the way to do it....

I guess with the sensor being positioned under the back bumper, it will get quite dirty, so this will need to be kept clean as well.

Just enabled mine in settings and worked first time with just a wave of the foot mid right of the boot. Didn't have to turn 45° either. Just a sideways motion. Oh, and my car's rear end is a tad muddy.
