Perhaps too early to post this as there may be limited experience of driving the Cyberster GT in the winter?

We live on a hill in the Peak District and my last two cars have been 4WD Audi TTs which helped to negotiate ice/snow. Before that I had Z4s (rear wheel drive only) which often got stuck and could not negotiate icy roads very well.

I understand that the only way to get 4WD on the GT is to go into Sport mode (I usually drive in Comfort Mode), has anyone had experience of driving the GT in ice/snow?

What type of tyres did you use on these cars, that is the thing that makes the difference.
Yes I guess tyres do make a difference, but no where near as much as 4WD.

years ago in a land rover we hit an extremely slippery heavily cambered road. in 2WD you could only stay on the road by sitting at the top of the camber. other wise you'd just slide sideways off the road, Nothing you could do about it. Change into 4WD, and the slippery road disappeared. It was just like driving normally.

The scariest thing I ever had was driving when it had just started to snow, I was going down a hill very slowly, tried to brake and slid all the way down the slope and across the junction, just about stopping before hitting the kerb.

After that experience I fitted Michelin Crossclimate 2 tyres to my next car and the difference in snow was amazing, I could actually start and stop.

OK I'm convinced.

I've never driven in snow, but it seems winter tyres are needed no matter 4WD or 2WD.
Question arises though, what's the disadvantages of winter tyres in summer?

Do you need 2 sets of wheels, to quickly change over, or do you get the tyres changed on the wheels?

Probably 2 sets of wheels. But that's expensive and a pain keep swoping them over. A lot of folk on the Merc forum's do that. S'pose you have to weigh up how much snow your area gets. 🙄👍

For the UK I wouldn't bother with winter tyres, I have used all season tyres and they are great for those few days of snow we get each year, and you just keep them on all year.

I always have 2 sets of wheels for all my cars. I drive the original ones until first winter, then mount winter tyres on the OEM wheels. These winter tyres usually last the time I keep my cars (4 winters). For the following summer, I buy a second set of wheels+sensors where I mount the original summer tyres if size is the same, or new ones if I buy wider wheels..
