This week and next I'm.driving the Mercedes E Truck tractor unit
It's essentially a standard 4x2 18t tractor unit with an uprated rear axle and tyres with a 11.5t axle capacity
Batteries are all way along drivers side from rear of cab to axle , passengers side is a smaller set
It's got a gear box 3 fwd and 1 rear gear and 3 stage regeneration braking , normal barking is still done by pneumatic system
Battery charge is 340miles ave unit only or about 220miles loaded but like normal Ev's depends on weight speed etc
2hours to charge

Would be nice to hear your thoughts after the two weeks.
Any technical details about battery capacity and battery technology, motor outputs etc would be a good comparison to cars too. I guess at 2hrs charge it doesn't accept the 1MW charge rate.

Looking forward to the reports, off someone actually driving one. For a decent length of time. 👍
It has English commentary

I am in the electrical side of IT and someone was showing a new 500kW!!! charging point for trucks the other day. The connector is enormous.....

Autodubbed since he closed the English language channel.

It works, but it takes a while before the dubbing is available.

Great - you're experiencing the future.

As @Gomev mentioned Tobias the elektrotrukker has been making long videos of his experiences of driving one plus making an app for truck drivers in Europe.

He has visited the UK a few times for deliveries but notes that
1. Our standard truck format isn't as good for fitting in batteries.
2. Our charging isn't as good for trucks as the European.

That said we are a medium sized island so probably depot charging could cover quite a lot of routes.

It is wild that Tesla talked about their truck years ago and still haven't introduced it.

Meanwhile all of the traditional European brands now have e-trucks and Windrose has come out of nowhere to produce a truck in a matter of months.

Musk has really lost momentum with all his distractions.

I can understand the focus on AI since it is the big thing right now and electric cars aren't so profitable with all the Chinese overproduction.

Maybe with the truck he made too many promises and can't deliver on them (not that this usually stops him). Or maybe he is only focused on the US market and with Trump in power there is no prospect of getting the roll out going
