Today, we have a major emergency training in Manchester. I think last year we also had some kind of mobile phone alerts for emergency.
Now I’m not sure whether this is nationwide or just Manchester, or maybe I’m a little too much into conspiracy theory?
Do you think the government knows something we don’t? Are we likely to encounter some kind of attack in the near future?

I'll go with the conspiracy theory.
All council areas periodically undertake major emergency exercises. Sometimes these will just be a desk exercise with leaders from the services dealing with a particular incident but occasionally they have to 'do it for real' to find out if plans would work in the real world.

All of the emergency services came under a lot of criticism over the way they handled the bomb attack in the city.
This is likely to be in responce to that report.

We regularly tested our major incident plans when I worked in the frontline NHS. I can see no reason why other emergency services and local authorities wouldn't do the same.

One thing's for sure, in a real emergency the Great and the Good will leave us poor sods to fend for ourselves ?
