This latest issue with the software not working properly on the MG S5 is extremely worrying, why does a car need to be connected to a server to function properly.
This makes me worry about control MG has over my vehicle without my consent or permission.
This needs major discussion and prompt a reply from MG UK and probably needs investigating by authorities in the UK.

What are others thoughts on this matter?

No it doesn't need to be connected to a server to operate but as already discussed in this thread it appears MG tried to do an OTA update.

Are you sure about the navigation? Mine has been very slow to open and operate today, and it seems to be worse where there is poor signal.

Same here. The system became very slow to nearly unresponsive. This started yesterday and I did a factory reset today, but didn't have a chance of checking any change/improvement because of snow in Ireland. I had the following symptoms:
  • Sat Nav not starting or reloading taking 30 to 40 sec.
  • Black screen without doing anything for 10 to 20 sec.
  • Listening to Spotify changing of volume unresponsive or delayed by 10 to 20 sec,
I had a Volvo before, and it asked if I want to download updates or not. Updating without consent is pure stupidity.
